Day 10
Friday July 21, 2000

Slept in late this morning after last night’s ass kicking. I decided to go over to the Mirage and play some double deck Blackjack. I bought in for $1,000 but never needed more than the first $200 of it. They use the same type of shuffle method as they use at the Golden Nugget by placing the shuffled cards in the discard rack and sliding the cut card through a slit in it. They seemed to cut a little deeper here than down at the Nugget though. I was playing 2 hands at $50-$100 a hand. I couldn’t do anything wrong and got up over $3,000 cashing out with a $2,500 win. I walked back over to the New Frontier to rest for a while before dinner.

Since today was Friday I went up to the Reserve to get in on their Friday night special. Earn 1,000 points ($1,000 coin in) and get a $20 comp to Tusks with no point reduction. This is one of the best deals in town if you ask me. I started off by playing the 50-play video poker machines since this is a fast way to rack up the points. I was getting my ass kicked here for the most part. The only highlights of this session were hitting a royal flush while playing at the 10-cent level for a $400 comeback and pulling 5 straight flushes. This allowed me to cash out even and I headed over to the slot club to get my special comp to Tusks. I had the Filet here again and it was great, as it was the last 3 times I went here in the week.

After dinner I headed back to the casino and lost my ass. I figured nothing was going to happen here so I went back down to the strip to the Mirage again. I hadn’t cashed in the chips I won earlier in the day so I needed to get back there to do that. I got to the valet and the place was packed. The tables weren’t too bad though other than the fact that the limits were all higher than they were earlier in the day. I decided to sit down at a $100 table and checked a yellow ($1,000) chip. Things were great here and I never needed more than the first black ($100) chip to play with. She was breaking one hand after another and I was beating her on points when she didn’t.

I had gotten a few blackjacks and decided to bet the green chips I got on top of my bet making a $200 bet. I got a pair of 8’s against her up card of 6 so I split. On the first hand I got a 3 and doubled down and drew a 3 and on the next hand I got a 6. I had 2 shit hands and $600 riding on them. She turned over an ace and I lost $600 to a friggen 17. Ouch, that hurt. She left the table and the regular dealer at this table came back from his break. He was just as good and was breaking like crazy and I was winning all of my doubles. I had even made a few $150 and $200 bets. I got to a point where the dealer seemed to be getting hotter and my hands were getting lousy so I decided to quit. I cashed out from this table with $4,000 for a $3,000 win. Not a bad session if you ask me. All together today I took the Mirage for $5,500. Now if only I hadn’t lost $2,200 last night and $1,500 this afternoon things would have been even better. I was happy with my total for the day though.

I left the Mirage and the valet took forever. I watched the volcano erupt for about the 10,000th time in my lifetime before the car finally arrived. When my car got back it seemed as if the valets were having a good time in my car since the radio station was on a station that I never listen to. I only know this because I don’t listen to Hip-Hop music. This wasn’t really a big deal and didn’t bother me at all. What did bother me was that the strip was packed since it was a Friday night and it took me about 20 minutes to get from the Mirage to the New Frontier.

When I got back to the New Frontier I played some FPDW progressives. I played for quite a while and lost $100. I didn’t hit the 4 deuces this time either. Now my eyes were tired so I just decided to go upstairs and go to bed.

Total win/loss for the day $4000
Total comps for the day $129
