Day 11
Saturday July 22, 2000

For some reason I slept pretty late today. I had originally planned on going to the pool but instead I just relaxed up in the room and watched some WWF action on Livewire on the USA Network. After that show there was a show on MSNBC about roller coasters. It was a new program and even had some information about Speed at the Sahara. They also showed the Manhattan Express at NYNY, the Adventure Dome at Circus-Circus and the Big Shot up on top of the Stratosphere.

After this show I finally got myself motivated and headed down to the Riviera for today’s meet. Since the Riv is pretty close to the New Frontier I decided to just walk down there rather than fight Saturday traffic on the strip. This meet was held in the food court at the Riviera. Members of the Las Vegas Talk board that attended were Daryl, Monte, Sylvia, VG and his wife CC who works at the Riviera in Continental Airlines City ticketing office. Gary also brought along his 3 daughters Kori, Taylor and Dominique. A picture of this meet can be seen by clicking here.

After the meet I walked across the street to the Westward Ho to get one of their famous 75-cent, ¾ of a pound Mega Dogs. I really didn’t have any intention of eating this big nasty thing. I really only bought it to take pictures of and see what they looked like. When I got done taking a few pictures of it I decided to at least take a bite of it. This thing was nasty. I really don’t know how people eat these things. I really feel sorry for the guy in line ahead of me that ordered 2 of them with chili and sauerkraut.

The Westward Ho Mega Dog is over 12 inches long, 2 inches in diameter and weighs in at 3/4 of a pound for 75 cents!

Later on in the afternoon I went back up to the Reserve. My main reason was to simply get a comp for Tusks and rack up some points on their 4X promotion. I played for quite a while and cashed out even. Things weren’t that great at this machine today since I had cashed out even and actually hit a royal while playing for dimes. The real highlight was while I was waiting for my hand pay I was sitting at the machine next to mine and leaned my elbow on one of the buttons. The machine started making noise and I looked down and nickels were dropping out. Someone had left $3.25 in credits on this machine.

After getting my hand pay I got my comp to Congo Jack’s Café. I know I had originally planned on going to Tusks but I really wasn’t that hungry. I had the blue-plate turkey special. The food was good but the service was really shitty. I waited about 15 minutes just to get my check when I was done eating.

After dinner I played some Blackjack for a while. Nothing was happening here so I cashed out even. Of course I had to wait 10 minutes at the cage to get my money because the dealer gave me a purple chip and the cage personnel have to verify that it came from one of the tables by calling each pit. Why bother having these chips if they are such a hassle?

After getting my money I tried some $1 progressive DeucesWild. I lost $200 here and then lost another $200 on the 50-plays.

After I left the Reserve I went downtown to Binion’s again. I lost $500 here in short time and then went over to the Golden Nugget. I cashed out even at one table and moved to another where I lost $200. I even went over to the 4 Queens to take a shot with no luck. Things were rough every where I played tonight. I decided to quit playing and went back to the New Frontier.

Traffic on the strip was terrible. The strip was backed up all of the way down past Charleston. Luckily I knew there was an entrance to get on the freeway on Charleston so I shot up there and took I-15 to Spring Mountain Rd. and got into the New Frontier from the back entrance.

Now about 10pm it was time to start walking down to the Barbary Coast. I had plans to meet Gary from Gary’s News and Views and a few others at the lounge to see the band Madhouse again. After battling my way down the sidewalks of the strip I finally got there to see Frank the webmaster from Las Vegas On Line was there as well as VG, CC, Rosco, and Carl and Robin. The show was a lot of fun as it was the week before only there was no “Cooter” this time. I finally made it back to the New Frontier at around 3am and went to bed.

Total win/loss for the day -$1100
Total comps for the day $116
