Day 2
Wednesday March 28, 2001
The first full day, video poker, and Terrible’s

I woke up this morning at 7:11am. I’m not sure if that is a good sign or not. Today’s plan is going to be to hit the casino and play some video poker. They have a bank of full pay Deuces Wild with a progressive here. I also have a coupon good for 2X points. Later on this afternoon there is a meet that was organized on the Las Vegas Talk Discussion Board. It’s over at the Mirage. Right now it’s time to get motivated and hit those video poker machines!

I went down to the FPDW progressive machines. The progressive was over $1,100. That’s pretty high for this bank even though I’ve seen it up over $1,300. Less than 10 minutes into my play I was dealt a straight with 4 cards to a royal. The right move here is to dump the odd card, but anyone that knows anything about video poker knows you almost never connect on this play. Today was the exception though. I pulled the Ace of diamonds for the royal flush. A nice way to start the gambling day out with a hand pay of $1,107.50. The rest of the session wasn’t very good since I wasn’t getting very many deuces. Other than the royal, I ended the session down just $25 after over an hour and a half of play. That’s not bad at all.

It was now just about 1pm and time for the meet that was organized on the Las Vegas Talk Discussion Board. I walked over to the Mirage from the New Frontier. The weather was great and it was around 80 degrees, but quite windy. When I arrived, the meet was already started and I joined in. some of the participants were, (insert people here). Carol even went through the time to make a CD for all of the visitors that has a bunch of Las Vegas related songs on it. A picture of this meet can be seen by clicking here.

After the meet I went back over to the New Frontier and needed a small snack so, I went over to Panda Express for some egg rolls. I don’t know if it’s me, but I don’t think the egg rolls out here in the west compare to those in the east. I took the food up to the room and now I’m going to eat and relax for a while before heading back down to the casino.

After a small break I went back to the casino. On my way down to the casino, there is a long walk through the hallways of this tower. About half way back to the casino I saw something lying on the floor. It appeared to be money. As I got closer I saw another one and saw that it WAS money. At this point I thought it was just play money that had an advertisement on one side. It wasn’t though; it was two $20 bills about 2 feet part from each other. I guess my luck was running. I quickly scooped up the cash and continued on my way.

I went right for the FPDW progressive again and things here this time were up and down. My credit meter actually got all of the way down to just 40 credits (I started with a $100 bill or 400 credits). Then things changed and I was back up to my original buy in. Then I finally hit the 4 deuces for 1,000 coins. I still had 300 of my original credits left and played them until they were gone to end the session with a $150 win.

After cashing out I went over to a Triple play machine and got killed. Then while wandering around I went over to the craps table where I dropped $50, it seemed no one could make their points. I took another $50 and went over to the double deck blackjack game to play for a few minutes. I wasn’t playing my usual way, so the loss was only $50 for the session. Things weren’t terrible at this table, but just weren’t good enough for a win.

My next move was to head out to Terrible’s. Terrible’s is running 5X points from 9pm-9am every day. They don’t have a super inventory of video poker, but it’s not bad. The plan here is to play for a while and rack up a bunch of points and save them up. Terrible’s runs monthly food specials, and other great promotions. I played 8/5-bonus poker. Things weren’t too bad here but the lack of quads was a killer. I only hit one in the entire 2½ hours I was playing and that was dealt 4’s.

After my play I had earned just over 10,000 points. I was hungry now so I went to the slot club to get a comp for one of their great food promos. I decided on the T-bone steak special. It’s normally only $7.99 but on this promo it’s only 500 points. At 5X points that’s only $100 in play and I find that as one of the best deals in town making Terrible’s a great play and eat casino.

The coffee shop where the deal was is called the Bougainvillea Café. I didn’t really look at the rest of the menu so I can’t comment on the prices, but the selection seemed quite large, as the menu was big. Other than the fact the temperature seemed to be about 40 degrees in the coffee shop this was a nice place. The service was attentive and the food was good. This is one of those Vegas values that makes me like being here so much. After eating I headed back here to the New Frontier and this is where I am now. It’s going towards 2am and I’m exhausted. Time for bed. Tomorrow is moving day so I need to get up a little early to pack everything up and make the move.

Total win/loss for the day $800
Total comps for the day $57
