Day 3
Thursday March 29, 2001
Reserve, Gold Coast, Las Vegas Hilton

I woke up early this morning, around 8am. This is strange considering I don’t usually wake up this early. It’s ok with me though since it just gives me more time to play!

Today is moving day so I need to start packing up my stuff and heading over to the Gold Coast where I’ll be spending the weekend.

My first stop was to the post office to mail out my bills because I forgot to mail them before I went to the airport on Tuesday. From there I went out to Henderson for a quick lunch at the Reserve. I have hundreds of thousands of points there from when they used to run quad point weekends. That was of course before Stations took over. I got a comp to Congo Jacks and had a bowl of their special wonton soup. This is a huge bowl of noodles, wontons, and about a whole chicken breast sliced up. It also has mushrooms (which get picked out, YUCK!) and spinach.

After lunch I didn’t play. Instead I headed back to the strip area and to the Gold Coast to check in. I’ll be here for the next 3 nights. I’m being comped up front by their slot host, based on an e-mail I sent explaining my usual level of play.

Check in was quick with no wait at all. I was given room 423. When I got to the room I had a terrific view of a wall and an exhaust vent. Not wanting to look at that for 3 days I went back to the front desk and asked to be moved. In just a minute I was on my way up to room 733. This was much better as I could see the south end of the strip and the construction of the new Palms casino across the street.

The rooms here are pretty basic. I’d call them what is known as the “Motel 6” style room. It has a king bed, a dresser with a 19” TV, 2 nightstands and a table and chairs. The bathroom is split into 2 parts. One part is the sink area. There is also a hair dryer in there. There is no closet in the room but there is a closet-like area on the left side of the sink room. Next to the sink area was the bathroom section where the toilet and tub were.

This room is quite small. An added feature of the bathroom is the small window that actually opens so you can look out the window while you’re in the shower. One thing I didn’t really like about the room was the bed. It’s a standard box spring but the mattress is this 3-inch thick foam pad. Basically a sponge to sleep on. I’m starting to think it’s not going to be very comfortable.

After I got settled in I headed out and made a quick stop at Albertson’s to pick up a few snacks. There is a store not too far from here.

When I got back to the hotel It was time to get ready to go over to the Las Vegas Hilton. I am meeting my friend Anne and her mother Terry over there to have dinner at the Hilton Steakhouse. Normally I don’t eat at places like this but they insisted I try it and I’d agree that it is good. Not that I doubted the quality of the place, I just don’t think food is worth the over inflated prices that these gourmet rooms charge. I only agreed to go because the meal was comped.

After dinner we went off to the casino. I tried some $1 video poker. This was a waste of time since I lost $200 in no time at all. After losing here I went to play some blackjack. This didn’t work out very well either. First there were a bunch of drunks at the table that didn’t have a clue. I lost $200 here and decided I couldn’t take playing with the rowdy drunks. They were having a good time and I’m all for that, but combined with losing I wasn’t having much fun. After leaving here we all went to the high limits room and each contributed $100 to play $5 video poker. This ended up being a bust too so I decided that I wouldn’t play any more.

Finally at about 1am we all left and I headed back here to the Gold Coast. I’m beat and I’m going to sleep now. I’m just hoping this bed is comfortable.

Total win/loss for the day -$500
Total comps for the day $54
