Day 7
Tuesday December 7, 2001

Got up after 10am today catching up on some sleep after staying up until almost 3am. There is a meet today at Paris that was organized by the members of the Las Vegas Talk Discussion Board.

After getting ready I went over to Paris. I got there a little early so walked through the casino and then stopped at a blackjack table. Things here couldn’t have been worse. I doubled 4 different times against dealer bust cards and every time the dealer made her hand. Not to mention the other hands she was pulling. I lost $200 here in only 2 decks. I thought my luck sucked but I actually felt bad for the guy on the other end of the table that got a $2,000 marker and was betting $300-500 per hand. Then had to ask for another $2,000 marker in order to keep playing. I was wandering around a little longer and as I passed by the table again I saw he had over $4,000 in front of him so he either started winning or took another marker.

I made my way to the meet and there was already a bunch of people there. The meet lasted for a little over an hour. I had plans to meet Gary and his wife CC, along with Vegas Sue and her son Chris at 6pm at the Feast Buffet at Sunset Station. This gave me a few hours to do some chip collecting.

After a quick break up in my room I went to the monorail and made my way to the south end of the strip to get some chips down there. Even though I stayed down at that end the other night I missed a few of the casinos. When I got to MGM I made a quick run to the food court and grabbed a small snack at McDonalds. From here it was over to New York-New York (yeah, I know I was staying here the other day but I forgot to get chips), Tropicana, Hotel San Remo, and then back to MGM to catch the monorail back down to Bally’s.

It was getting late so in order to beat rush hour I wanted to leave early. After getting my car from the valet I headed up to Sunset Station. I was early so I tried my luck with some FPDW. I lost $40 here in quick order. I think I had about 3 hands better than a 3 of a kind. You just can’t win at deuces wild when the deuces aren’t popping up.

After making my contribution to the machines, I met up with Vegas Sue and her son Chris. Shortly after Gary and CC arrived. I had a few 2 for 1 coupons that I donated to everyone and I used points for my buffet. The buffet is normally $10 on non-specialty nights. I am a gold card level player at Stations and get a 25% discount on the buffet. It cost around 4,000 points. I’d never been to this buffet before and I thought it was pretty good.

After dinner we all hit the casino. I had a $50 match play coupon from the Casino Player fun book. I bought in for $200 and made my $50 bet. I was dealt a 12 against a dealer 8. I busted. The next 3 hands were losers as well and I quit after losing $125. Seems to be a theme this trip. From the blackjack table I went and made more contributions to Stations shareholders on various video poker machines. This trip is really beginning to suck, as I can’t seem to have a decent day. I don’t remember ever having such a rough time at getting any wins.

Gary and CC and Sue and Chris were having similar luck. After we all got tired of losing we went our separate ways. My way was to see if the bank of Binion’s was open. I made my way downtown and found a table. I got ahead a few dollars here and then was up and down for a while. I was playing at the table with just one other player. He seemed to be doing ok. That was until the scotch started kicking in. Then he started playing like an asshole. Really dumb stuff like holding on an 8 and then later on a 5. These great plays were followed by him hitting stiff hands against a dealer’s 5 and 6. These few hands really seemed to have screwed up the momentum of the game. I know a player’s bad moves balance out over time, but I estimate he cost me about $300. Partially my own fault for staying at the table. A new dealer came to the game and was on fire and wiped out what remaining cash I had left. What a surprise this was. I lost at blackjack again. This is REALLY starting to suck. It’s just not supposed to be this bad. I can take losing but the way things have been going is causing this to become a lot less fun than it should be.

Pretty disappointed at the way things are going so far I decided to just quit today even though it was only about 10pm. I went back to the room and jumped in the Jacuzzi and just bummed around until about midnight. I needed a snack after this and went down to the overpriced gift shop to get some snacks. I just love the way they take pre priced 99-cent items and place a price sticker of $1.75 over top of it. Are they that desperate to make a few extra cents they need to do this? This store is so bad that a soda was actually cheaper from the vending machine up in the hotel. After eating my over priced snack I called it a night and just went to bed. Tomorrow is moving day and I have a few stops I need to make before going over to the New Frontier to check in.

Total win/loss for the day -$1000
Total comps for the day $59
