Day 17
Saturday January 2, 2010

Today we slept in as we’re getting lazy! Dee has wanted to see the Liberace Museum for a long time now so today were going to head over there armed with a 2 for 1 coupon. I’m not a fan of Libby but I’ve heard the museum was quite entertaining. I’d have to say it was neat to see some of the memorabilia. They had cars, pianos, costumes and more. This guy took gaudy to the extreme! The museum is separated into two buildings and your admission gets you into both places. You may take pictures here but no flash is allowed nor is video. Admission here is $15 per person which I thought was a little bit high for what you get but there 2 for 1 coupons all over town so anyone paying full price isn’t looking for discounts.

When we were done checking out Libby’s stuff it was back down to Main Street Station to park the car and then to walk over to the 4 Queens. We also had a reservation over at the Four Queens. We didn’t need the room but the offer came with $100 free play and $20 per day in food at Magnolia’s Veranda. Both of us enjoy Magnolia’s and it will give a change of pace from eating at the Cal and Main Street Station. $100 in free play is a pretty good deal to. Along with the food we do like to play here as well.

Originally when I booked the agent told me I wasn’t allowed to check in on a Saturday. I respectfully told her there was no fine print on the offer stating so. She put me on hold for a few minutes, came back and told me that even though it’s not stated it does say the “management reserves all rights” (The standard cop out casinos love to use) but then told me since they had capacity for me they would allow it as a courtesy. I thought the no Saturday check in crap went by the wayside a few years ago other than special events or holiday weekends. Apparently the Four Queens would rather chase away customers than allow a Saturday check in.

When we got over there the place was fairly dead and checking in was a breeze. I haven’t stayed here in many years so I was looking forward to seeing what they’ve done with the rooms. I had originally requested a room overlooking the Fremont Street Experience. This request was given. We were assigned to room 410. The rooms here are pretty small but this room has a king bed, nightstands, TV, small table and chairs and a view of Fremont Street. The bathroom is also tiny and basic with a small counter, toilet and shower/tub.

We left our things up in the room and went to lunch at Magnolia’s. I had the spicy chicken club and a bowl of their Louisiana Gumbo. De had a turkey sandwich. Both came with French fries and were good.

After lunch we hit the casino. Just for the heck of it Dee checked her account to see if she had some free play because mail to Canada gets lost more often than it’s delivered. Sure enough she had $50 available. With our free play we hit a variety of penny slots. I was holding my own but Dee was taking another beating but while she was playing one of the new Star Trek games she got a screen almost full of Captain Kirk and won everything back on one spin. She played a bit more and quit even. I played some more and scored a bonus round on DaVinci diamonds for over 9000 coins and cashed out with a $12 win.

We went back to the after this to grab our things and while we were up there a show was going on up on the Freemont Street Experience. This one was Born 2B Wild. I hadn’t see one of these shows in years so it was fun to watch from the room.

Tonight we had dinner plans with Anne and her family and her long time friend David at a local Mexican place called Viva Mercado. They’ve moved since the last time I was there but the food is pretty good and that’s coming from a guy that isn’t a big fan of Mexican food. (Jack in the Box Tacos don’t really count). I had the 3 taco combination and Dee had the chicken burrito combo. The combo comes with soup, salad, rice and refried beans. Of course Anne trying to embarrass everyone had to tell the staff that my and Steve’s birthday was last week and they came out singing to us and put giant sombreros on our heads. The only good thing about this was the free churros we got for a mini dessert.

After dinner we hit the TCBY behind the restaurant for some frozen yogurt. They were about to close but actually opened the doors up for us. I thought this was pretty nice of them. While we were in the shop we heard yelling from the drive through and it was Anne. They had the same idea we did for dessert!

When we got back to Main Street we hit the casino and the triple plays. Dee started of great but then got killed. I was getting killed the whole time but then got dealt trip sevens and scored quads on three lines of the 5. Things were all down hill from there though and I lost $150 here. Dee had come upstairs at that point but I stayed in the casino.

I decided I’d try some blackjack. Things here started off choppy but they got decent and I was up a small amount. That didn’t last long though as the dealer caught two 21’s, a 20 and a blackjack and wiped me out. I went to another table and started out well getting lots of blackjacks and hitting a lot of double downs. The problem was between the doubles and blackjacks the cards favored the house. I got to one point where I told the lady next to me I should quit as I was up $5 for the session. But of course being the ass I can be continued to play and the dealer wiped me out on one deck.

It was late and time for bed but I stopped off at the Boar Bar to see Bob the bartender and chatted with him for a few minutes. It was good to see him. He used to take really good care of us back e I used to play and drink at the bar. From here I stopped off at the Triple 7 to see Ronnie. Ronnie used to bar back for Bob in the old days but now works the grave at the Triple 7. It was good to see the guys and then I came to bed at about 2am.

Total win/loss for the day -$600
Total comps for the day $302
