Day 19
Monday January 4, 2010

Today is our last day in town. It’s amazing that this trip is almost over already. The first half went by at a nice slow pace but it seems like once we got back from Laughlin the trip ended really fast. I once heard a cruise director say that a cruise is like a roll of toilet paper. The closer to the end you get, the faster it goes. I guess the same hold true for Las Vegas!

We initially woke up early today but then slept in later almost to the afternoon. We started off by having lunch over at the California in the café. The special today was honey tempura chicken and it’s one of my favorite items. Dee got fries with hers and I got rice. The food came out quickly and also came with a medley of pearl onions and green peas (yuck!). It was tasty and service was fast today.

When we were done with lunch we headed out for a quick drive and to pick up our laundry. We like having this done before we go home so that when we get back, we don’t have to spend a day washing clothes. When we got to the Laundromat our things weren’t quite ready yet. The lady there asked us to give her 15 minutes so I took Dee around the corner to the Eldorado Casino which is a place she’d never been to before. We took a quick walk through and then headed back over to the Laundromat and then back downtown to Main Street Station.

Once we were done with laundry we went down to the casino for some video poker action. To say this was the session from hell would be an understatement. Dee dropped a few hundred in short order and dropped twice that much although I did play a little longer than she did. This wasn’t exactly the session we’d hoped for on our last day.

On the way back to the room I stopped at the players club and gathered all of the toys I had earned over the last few days and surprised Dee with a bag full of them when I got back to the room. The lady at the slot booth called them our kids.

Back up to the room I started packing for tomorrow’s trip home. Dee was already done for the most part but since I hate packing I tend to wait as long as possible to do it. Once I was done it was dinnertime.

For dinner we were going to go over to the Four Queens to use our comps at Magnolia’s that came with the room. Dee got spaghetti and, meatballs and I got a chicken breast dinner. My food was good and Dee liked hers but gave the edge in the spaghetti wars to the California at this point.

Once we were fed we gathered our things in the room and went downstairs to check out. I don’t normally bother to check out but when I’ve been charging things to the room I like to cover my bases. This took just a minute and we were on our way with a zero balance. On the walk back over to Main Street Station we caught a Fremont Street Experience show. This one was George Thorogood’s Bad to the Bone. I think the older shows from years ago were better than these new ones. They all seem the same to me.

Back at Main Street Station I caught up with a host and asked if she could comp the few things we charged to the room. Those would include a few meals and items that weren’t covered by our Hawaiian Books. She said it would all be covered and she’d take care of it.

After a short break in the room we hit the video poker machines again. I was doing well hitting quads and getting dealt quad 7’s followed shortly after by aces. Dee didn’t do well and lost again. UI felt really bad for her because other than yesterday it seems like all she’s done the second half of this tip is lose. She finally gave up and went to bed. I kept playing and eventually finished up with a small $100 win.

When I was done with video poker I wanted to play some craps. Things started out ok here then got choppy then got bad so I ran away with just a $400 loss. It was still early by my standards so I played some blackjack. This table started out really bad with the dealer not breaking a hand for the first 3 decks. Then things leveled off a bit but didn’t get good, they just flowed like they should. I ended up down quite a bit here but then things got good. I was thinking it was time to press my bets a bit but I didn’t press enough and during a hot streak didn’t earn as much as I could have. I got all of the way back to even for the session and should have quit but like a dick, kept playing. This was exactly the time when the cards turned again and I eventually lost my buy in with exception of a few hundred dollars.

For a little fun I finished off with a few penny slots but couldn’t hit much of anything and it was now 2am so I called it a trip and went up to bed a bit aggravated about how I handled my last night in town.

Total win/loss for the day -$2200
Total comps for the day $153
