Day 2
Wednesday June 23, 2010

When we got up today we started off the day with breakfast from room service. Room service prices are decent here and I was surprised by this. Dee had a veggie omelet and I had French Toast. We sat out on the balcony and it was already 85 degrees at 7:30am but you'd never know it. It's a dry heat! Back home 2 days ago it was 90 degrees and it was unbearable!

After breakfast we got cleaned up and ready to head out. We had planned on being out all day. Once ready it was off valet to get the SUV. From there it was off to a day of shopping at one of our favorite stores, Bealls Outlets. We researched where they were located online and entered the store into Dee's GPS and it took us right where we wanted to go. I was lucky enough to score a shirt for 50˘ and 2 pair of underwear for 15˘ each in a super discount rack!

While we were out we had to check in for the flight tomorrow and found a restaurant that had WiFi that reached into the parking lot. We were able to finally get connected a few minutes later than I wanted to but still scored A boarding passes with position 56 & 57.

Next up was some lunch at a Cheesecake Factory in a mall in Mesa. Dee had never been here before and I warned her of the portions. She got a turkey club & house salad and I had the orange chicken lunch special. Our server was really cool and he was from the NY area with parents on the Long Island and had some property not far from my house. He also talked us into having their new Red Velvet Cheesecake. It's 2 layers of red velvet cake and 2 layers of their original cheesecake with cream cheese. Only one word can describe it. YUM!

We still had time after this and hit one more store to shop at but came up empty. All in all we got a few really good deals though and had fun shopping.

After lunch and shopping we headed to Phoenix to Chase Field where we had tickets to see the New York Yankees take on the Arizona Diamondbacks. This was the primary reason for this trip to Phoenix. Actually the original plan was to go to LA and see the Yankees play the Dodgers on the weekend but we opted for the Diamondbacks due to cost. Bottom line is it was WAY cheaper to see this game in Phoenix staying and eating free at Harrah's than going to LA and having to pay for everything.

Being that this is pretty much a one time thing I opted to get the best tickets I could possibly get. I originally had to enter my name on the Diamondbacks website to be eligible to buy tickets in a pre sale. I did get lucky enough to win a chance and scored tickets behind home plate in section I, Row M, seats 14 & 15. They were a little pricey at $175 each but a similar ticket at Yankee Stadium would run about $2500 so in comparison this was a bargain.

We got to the stadium early and found some close parking for the rip off rate of $15. I hate having to pay top park the car after buying tickets to an event, especially after paying $350 to watch a bunch of overpaid crybabies play a game.

The seats were great with a super view of the entire field and close enough to see the player’s faces. We were right under the press boxes and saw the commentators from the YES Network (Michael Kay, Ken Singleton & Kim Jones). There seemed to be more Yankee fans in the place than D-Back fans tonight. Some for the Yankees chants were deafening. Granted, not like they are at Yankee Stadium but impressive for a road trip. The game was fun to watch and close the whole time. The final score was Yankees 6, Diamondbacks 5 in 10 innings. It was cool to come all this way to see the Yankees win and the energy the NY fans brought with them.

When the game was over we headed back down to Harrah's and called it a night as this was a very long game with lots of walks, pitching changes and extra innings.

Total win/loss for the day $0
Total comps for the day $139
