Day 8
Tuesday June 29, 2010

When we got up this morning when we once again slept in, we started off by taking a long walk up the river walk. We went all of the way down to River Palms ducking into some of the casinos to cool off because it was so hot out. When we were in the River Palms I popped $1 into one of those virtual blackjack machines. Dealt a 14 against a dealer 2 I held and the dealer busted. I cashed out with the $1 win and off we went!

On the way back to the room we checked out the pool area and the gym. The gym was very sparse with about 4 machines in it and they don't even have a treadmill. Quite honestly, this room is a waste. This is one department that Harrah's wins hands down. The pool is a standard hole in the roof and I put my hands in and it seemed cold considering how hot it was out.

When we got back from our walk we had some lunch with the foods we bought at the grocery store yesterday. Turkey sandwiches and chips were on the menu today. It was a nice change from eating restaurant foods and waiting long times in the cafe to eat.

After lunch I wanted to close my eyes for 20 minutes because the sun kicked my ass. Dee joined me and 2 1/2 hours later we woke up! So much for 20 minutes.

Once we woke up we hit the casino and played some VP at the bar. This was a bloodbath for me. Dee held her own hitting a few quads and getting lots of full houses. I dropped my first $100 with no quads and little of anything else. It wasn't unusual to go 8 hands in a row with no wins, hit a pair of jacks and then go another 8 hands with no winners. I put in another $100 and switched to some aborted pay table of DDB with progressives for the quads and royal. The aces and aces with a kicker were fairly high and I was hoping for the best. As it would turn out the aborted pay table was meaningless as I didn't hit anything with the reduced payoffs except for 1 full house. I dropped this $100 too but Dee finished off even and we went to eat dinner.

Dinner was at the Aquarius Cafe. Apparently when they closed the buffet for renovations they didn't increase the staffing at the cafe to make up for the increased traffic. The service in here was horrible again and we waited 20 minutes before our order was taken. Finally the waitress came around and Dee ordered the Beef Enchilada and I ordered the Chicken Parmesan with spaghetti. My meal also came with soup or salad (I chose chicken noodle) and garlic toast. The food was good as it usually is and we finished off the meal with dessert. Dee had carrot cake and I had a hot fudge sundae. I felt the ice cream sundae was a rip off at 5.99 as it was 2 scoops of ice cream and some hot fudge. Also because compared to the cost of the meal which was only $8.99.

After dinner we played a variety of penny slots. Dee held her own again as I fed in bill after bill. She played the entire evening on the same $100 that she used for VP. I on the other hand lost another $200 playing these stupid things. I didn't have my usual luck on these today and hit very few bonus rounds. Dee also hit a bonus round on one machine that paid her zero coins. I think that's really unfair and the slot makers should be sure to award your original spin money back to you just for hitting a bonus.

After getting killed at penny slots we went to play VP again. I used the $250 in free play they had loaded on my card from my mailer and from our host. Dee started with $200 cash. Dee switched back and forth between 10 and 3 play hitting a few quads and getting dealt 3's. I was doing ok on the ten play running my $250 free play into almost $500. I had hit a few quads and got dealt two full houses. No sooner did I get up there though and then the downward spiral started. The same thing was happening as on the single line machines. I was going 5-6 hands in a row with just a few coins being returned, I'd win a few on the following hand then go back to getting 10 coin returns. One thing I can't understand at times in 10 play is how you can be dealt a low pair and not score one 3 of a kind or two pair hand on the entire screen. Before long all my credits were gone and Dee was cashing out even. We were officially back in the negative for the trip today but luckily she's been pretty lucky and hasn't been losing at nearly the rate I have.

It was going on midnight now so we went upstairs and watched TV for a bit and then went to bed.

Total win/loss for the day -$550
Total comps for the day $578
