Day 14
Monday July 5, 2010

We were up bright and early this morning as expected. We started off the day by heading over to Fremont Street to take a few pictures before the crowds popped up and then hit the Fremont for the buffet for breakfast. I'm still not sure why but Dee really likes this buffet. I find it weak but decent. We took it easy again here like we did at Main Street Station.

After breakfast we stopped off at the Four Queens to play some video poker. They were running a promo plus I wanted to get back into the good mailing list. I had fallen off the mailing list from a super short play day last winter and my mailers went from great with free play and food to buy one get one room nights. We chose 50¢ jacks or better video poker to play this promo. Things started off well right off the bat for both of us. Dee hit quad aces (oh the pain) and I was dealt quad 3's (can you say more pain). We continued to play and then I hit aces and got dealt another quad. Things were good but streaky at times. Dee ended up hitting aces again and I seemed to have been getting dealt full houses over and over. To max out this promo you needed 1000 points to get two picks of collector tins with gifts in them. By the time we reached our goal we were down just $5 so as far as I was concerned it was successful. When we got to the lot booth I made my first pick. Dee said to choose a Marilyn Monroe tin so I grabbed one of those. The gift inside was a rolling duffle bag. I wasn't thrilled with this as I was hoping for free play. The second pick is out of a different batch with better prizes. Dee said go for the black and white Elvis so I grabbed one of those and got the top prize of $200 in free play.

The goal was to churn this free play and cash out anything left. We chose a variety of penny slots and downloaded $50 onto each one. We didn't do well on the first one. The next machine was tough as well and the third machine was ok. The final machine we played was good and turned a profit. In total we cashed out $145 of the $200 in free play.

Even though we ate not too long ago we were a bit hungry so I thought since we ran quite a bit through the machines I'd ask for a comp to Magnolias. I stopped by the host office and was given an open ended comp for 2, with 2 rounds of drinks. There was no way we would waste this on lunch so decided to save it for a huge dinner and just have a snack up in the room.

We walked back to Main Street Station and grabbed a quick snack and then hit the casino and the triple plays. I started with five play and hit a quad right away again while Dee tried her luck on the 10 coin games again. She dropped $100 in no time and moved to a standard 5 coin game. I held my own. Then we both hit aces at the same time. From there Dee continued to play for the rest of the session hitting quad after quad and cashed even as things were tough between quads for her. I eventually dropped my $100 which was tough considering I had hit aces. I moved to the ten coin machine hoping to score a fast quad. I didn’t hit any thing big but kept hitting just enough to hover even. Just as I said to Dee I hadn't hit a quad yet I pulled quad 4's for $100 and moved back to 5 coin triple play. From here I dropped $100 in no time and we decided to take a break down less than $100. We also scored 13 scratch cards and all were $2 again.

After a short nap we were hungry so walked back over to the Four Queens to use our dinner comp to Magnolias Veranda. This is one of Dee's favorite restaurants in town and has always been one of my favorite cafes as well. Since this was a full open ended comp we went wild. For appetizers Dee ordered crab cakes and I got mozzarella sticks. I got the rib eye special for my entree and that came with vegetables, a baked potato, dinner rolls, and soup. As usual I got their Louisiana Gumbo. Dee got the lasagna and a salad. We finished off the already too big meal with chocolate cake and vanilla ice cream for dessert. Normally we're pretty happy with the food here but tonight I have to say there was major disappointment. Dee said her crab cakes tasted like they were sitting in the fridge for a while and her lasagna tasted like it was left over from yesterday and reheated. She was pretty disappointed in it and hardly touched it so I knew it wasn't good because it's one of her favorite foods. My mozzarella sticks were good but not heated all of the way through. The rib eye was excellent though but the vegetables looked as if they were 3 days old. They were tasteless and all shriveled up and the dinner rolls tasted like they'd been reheated multiple times. The chocolate cake was good but the vanilla ice cream was freezer burned. I'm not sure what's happened here that the foods weren't as good as usual and seemed old. The only thing I could think of is that business has been slow and the foods haven't been turning over as quickly as they usually do and they had too much stock. Either that or they are trying to cut costs by reusing certain items. In any event it wasn't a great meal but we'll give them another chance in the future before totally writing them off. Hopefully things will be better as we really like it here. The total bill was about $55 and a signature took care of everything.

When we rolled out of the Four Queens back to Main Street Station and took a much needed break and watched some TV. I felt like crap from eating too much. You'd think I would know better.

At about 10pm we hit the casino again. We started off with the triple plays. Dee tried another $100 on the 10 coins with no luck and switched to 5 coin, again with no luck. I started off strong with a set of aces and another set a little while later. Other than that though there weren't many hits. It doesn’t get much worse than hitting aces twice and losing for the session. I even took a shot a DDB hoping to score just a quad and couldn't even do that. Between us we dropped $500 on VP in less than an hour and we only hit 6 quads and all of the scratch cards were again for only $2. Boy do I miss the old days when they were mostly $3 & $5.

Next we tried some penny games again, with no luck. I only hit 2 bonus rounds the whole time we played. Dee did a little better but on one machine that the bonus rounds are much tougher to hit she finally hit one. This is after the two of us playing the game for the last 3 days. I was excited and expected good things to come. She got 10 free spins at triple pay. It wouldn't have really mattered if it were at 100X pay though because in her 10 spins she won exactly ZERO coins. I wasn't happy about this and felt bad for her and I was quite disappointed. She cashed out after that in search of more games and I switched to blackjack.

The blackjack started out ok but then got tough. I hovered even for a good period of time but every time I doubled or split the dealer pulled a 21. I kid you not when I say every time. I played for about an hour and she caught a real hot streak and wiped me out by pulling 4 consecutive 21's in a row. I swear I couldn't pull that many 21's if I loaded the deck. I ended up dropping another $500 here and gave up. We really got killed tonight.

I stopped up at the Boar Bar and saw Ronnie was working. He told me Bob was no longer there and the he was now working the main bar on the graveyard shift. I was sad to hear that Bob was gone as there were many fun times had with him. It was getting late so I was headed to bed and saw Dee in the internet area so I checked mail with her and then we headed up to bed around 3am after getting our asses kicked and losing almost everything we were up.

Total win/loss for the day -$1200
Total comps for the day $344
