Day 34
Thursday August 20, 2012
Dee was up pretty early today and I slept right through her getting ready. Once I was up and ready we took a modified trip down the river walk to the Golden Nugget. The modification took place at the Pioneer where there are stairs on the river walk so we had to back track and go around the front side of the Pioneer motel and through the casino instead. This was no big deal and had we remembered there were stairs on the river walk we would have gone that route to begin with.

When we got to the Golden Nugget we had breakfast/lunch at Harlow's. Dee had a Denver scramble and I got the chicken fried chicken with mashed potatoes and for some reason also came with Texas Toast. The food here was good today and the service was fine. We also played 5 games of Keno again and hit a whopping 2 numbers over all 5 games. I do not understand how people can actually sit in the Keno lounge playing this game for hours.

After the meal we hit the casino for a short visit. I had $50 in free play from my mailer that we played on a penny game. We each took $25 of it and had no luck only getting about $60 in play out if it, similar to when I ran it in July.

We came back to the Aquarius and hit the triple plays after this. I actually started off with 5-play for a change of pace and in under 5 minutes had dropped $100 and that was with hitting a quad. I switched back to triple play and dropped another bill in 10 minutes. Dee had dropped 2 bills at this point as well and we'd only been playing for about 20 minutes in total. This is the session from hell that I’d been dreading the whole trip. I popped in a 3rd bill and tried a short pay deuces game to change things up. I did better here and got an hour out of this bill. Dee hovered on her 3rd bill and finally hit 1 quad. She cashed out with $150 to scrape up a few bucks and keep the session from being a total disaster in just over an hour. In total we dropped $450 in this short session.

We came up to the room to lick our wounds and take a break. We ended up falling asleep for a few hours and woke up refreshed.

We hit the casino again hoping to have a little better luck than we did this morning. I always hate days where we get beat up so badly that a royal will likely only break us even for the day or eek out a small win. We both hit the triple plays again and things here were better than earlier. I wasn't hitting much of anything but did hit a quad. Dee scored a dealt bonus quad to save us. For the session we finished up even with Dee winning $100 and me losing $100.

It was getting late now and we hadn't eaten anything since lunch so went to Cafe Aquarius to get something to eat. Dee got the signature wrap (chicken with sauce, lettuce, tomatoes, and fries) and I got the Sign of the Zodiac soup. This is a noodle soup with bok choy, pork, chicken, shrimp and scallops. I gave the seafood to Dee. I was going to ask them to leave out the seafood and add in some extra pork but our server barely spoke English and I didn't want to end up with nothing but seafood if I even attempted to make a change. Dee liked her wrap and my seafood and my soup was excellent.

After dinner we played another session of video poker. This time we hit the triple plays again. I was hoping Dee would hover like normal so I set her up at the 50¢ level. Things started out well for her with a bonus quad and some other nice dealt winners. It slowed down on her though and she eventually switched back to quarters when she got back down to even. I was only playing quarters and was doing well hitting a few quads to start and then hit aces, a dealt bonus quad, a straight flush, quad fives on 2 lines, and aces 2 more times. I switched to five-play for a short time and didn't hit any quads there but did hover for a while. Dee was starting to fall into a quad drought. She did manage to pull a bonus quad but it wasn't enough. She finished her session down $150 but I finished ahead by $450 to really salvage what was almost a horrible day.

To wrap up the day we hit McDonald's for some ice cream and then we finally packed it in around 1am after a roller coaster of a day.

Total win/loss for the day - $150
Total Comps for the day $128
