Day 17

Merry Christmas To All & Happy Birthday to ME!
Today is my 46th birthday. We started it off with room service and an in room breakfast. I got the French Toast and Dee had the American Classic. We shared both when it got here and I also ordered a fruit plate that was supposed to come with banana bread. About 12 hours later (while we were having a snack at the Promenade Cafe) I realized that the Banana bread wasn't delivered.

After breakfast and getting ready we started playing today. We tried 3/5 play to start off with and it was really rough for me. I couldn't get a dealt winner, I was getting low paired to death and high carded to death. Hands just wouldn't improve. It was so bad that I was down $200 before I got dealt my first three of a kind. Dee was hovering the whole time and hit a set of aces to keep going. I switched over to DDB in a hail Mary attempt and got dealt trip fours. I actually filled in the quad on two lines and I was back in it. I switched back over to bonus poker. Dee hit another set of aces but was again just even. She also hit a few other quads along the way but then started losing. I hit quad fours again and I was $20 from being even. By now Dee was getting beat up and I went into a downward spiral with more of the low pairs not getting better or any more dealt quads. At this point I was only dealt trips 3 times and one straight. Nothing better than that. I ended up busting out the $300 I bought in for and I looked over and Dee was now down $100 too. This was not a good way to start the day.

To change things up a bit we went to a bank of 10 coin quarter machines and played ugly ducks. It's not the best game to play but in the past I've always hit deuces on these machines so figured it was worth a shot. On my 3rd hand I was dealt 3 deuces and pulled the quad on the bottom line for a $500 hit. I got the meter up a bit more with a few straight flushes and wild royals but things went cold in a hurry. I decided to cash out with a $300 win while Dee didn't hit anything and dropped a bill in the same amount of time. We got off of those machines and had a $200 win to offset some of the earlier losses.

Next we tried some dime ten play. Dee wanted to play deuces so I figured why not. Soon after we started playing she got dealt 3 deuces and popped the 4th on the bottom line. She hovered for quite a while but eventually busted out even though she hit deuces earlier. She bought in again and I was just hovering and then bleeding and bleeding and bleeding. I also bought in again. Then while I'm playing the guy next to me says hey, would you look at that. So I look at his machine looking for some type of odd hand to big win and I see nothing special. So he points to the machine to his left and the guy got dealt a royal on nickel 10 play. That was pretty good to see.

We continued to plug along and I wasn't hitting much of anything. I even switched to DDB for a while with no luck. Dee on the other hand popped another set of deuces and hovered like she's so good at. I leveled of for a while but still couldn't get the dealt winners I needed to stay alive. That's when Dee popped her 3rd set of deuces for the session. I busted out again and Dee was even so we quit with a $400 loss (me).

We were getting hungry and were undecided what to do for dinner tonight. I knew the 2 better places here we booked pretty tightly but took a shot by having a host try to get a reservation at Spiedini. If they had something we'd decide what and when we were going to eat based on the time they had. They actually had an early dinner seating today and had a 3:15pm time. We took that and had about 45 minutes to spare.

During this time we played some penny games. Dee picked out some Irish themed game and we hit 2 bonus rounds on it and took a $40 win out it which was a good change because we'd dropped $20 on the 2 previous games with no bonus rounds.

For Christmas dinner we went to Spiedini. They were offering a limited menu today and a special holiday all inclusive menu. Dee ordered a pasta with lobster dish I had the turkey dinner that came with choice of appetizer (I took the tomato bisque)and a dessert. The food was excellent and this place is reasonably priced. Everything went well except I had ordered the chocolate cake dessert and the server brought me cheesecake. Not a big deal but I was looking forward to the chocolate.

When we were done eating we were back at the machines pounding away. This time we played Spin Poker. We were both holding our own and Dee hit a straight flush on one line. Later she held trip threes and hit a triple quad to bump her meter up. I was plugging away stay close to even most of the time. For a change I was actually getting some dealt winners. Dee wanted to switch games and went to deuces. As she hit the deal button I said no, the pay table is really bad. So she holds her cards since she already hit deal and on the bottom line straight across hits a royal with no deuces! We played a bit longer but didn't hit anything else.

We decided to go play 3/5 play again to try to protect the little bit of profits we now had. I was hovering which was nice compared to how the rest of the day had been for me. Dee was getting her ass kicked with nothing to even mention. She switched over to double – double hoping for a quad. That never happened but she was dealt a flush which she was happy with. The only thing wrong with it was it was 4 to a royal. She really hates having to dump a 90 coin pay off to break this up because most of the time when she does it she totally loses everything and doesn't get a single straight, flush or even high card. So far this trip she's done it 5 or 6 times and got screwed every time. This time was different though because she hit a royal on line 2. Her second royal in about 30 minutes.

We cashed out and reloaded each machine with $100 and played ugly ducks. Within seconds Suzy Q over there pops quad ducks on the bottom line. She played on this for a while but the swings of deuces started grinding her away. I was still hovering but busted out. She cashed out with a $100 profit making this round even for us.

We were pretty much done playing for the day so I ran my free play through the single line machines and turned $175 into $165 in cash.

Just for fun we found some Ultimate X machines that had penny denominations on them but with really bad pay tables. I figured for pennies we could just play and have some fun. We switched between bonus, DDB and deuces. I was getting a fair amount of play as was Dee but eventually the meters started going south. We I hit a couple of kicker quads and she hit some bonus quads with multipliers.

We switched to deuces wild and I joked with Dee that she was down so much that even if she hit a royal she'd still be down. I got a dirty look after that and then I told her “Don't hit a royal for $40” which means she was probably going to do it. I also joked she'd probably get deuces a few times too! Of course she hit deuces with a 2x multiplier. We continued to play and my meter started coming back. Before long I was only down $3. I should have just quit and taken the $3 loss. I started losing again but that was OK because Dee says “look” and I see a royal flush with no deuces on line 9 and shook my head. Later on she hit deuces again with a 2x multiplier. We finally cashed out with a $25 loss between us. Considering the pay tables and we did over 1k in action it wasn't bad.

Next we played a few penny slots with a few hits and bonus rounds. We did get to play for quite a while but lost $20.

It was getting late but we hadn't eaten in like 6 hours so we went to the Promenade Cafe for a snack. We split an order of chicken egg rolls and chicken fingers. Nothing special here but it was good and filled us up.

We came up to the room after this and closed out a great Christmas and Birthday.
