Day 26
Thursday January 5, 2018
We slept in today and got a late start. We didn't have much planned so it felt good to rest.

When we finally got ready we went to the casino. I wanted to get some action in but not too much and not enough to make us losers for the trip. We started off with 50/100 play for pennies. The pay tables are horrid but we typically get a good amount of action in on these. It wasn't a great session but I did score dealt quad nines. Despite this I still ended up losing. I was just not getting any dealt winners at all. Dee was in a similar situation. She didn't get dealt any quads but got a few flushes and a full house. In the end we dropped $200 between us and didn't get that much action.

I decided to suck it up and play dollars and 8/5 bonus hoping to get the rest of the action in. Instead of both of us playing I let Dee have the honors because she's usually luckier than me.

She was pounding along but not hitting much. She was on fire with flush 4 though. She connected on most of those. One bad pocket had her drop about $150 with no hits at all. She hit a full house to get back into it and then a few flushes. Next thing I knew she was actually up. Not much, but she was up. She kept going and soon after she was bleeding to death. Down $50, then down $100, then down $150. She was hovering in the low end for a while but then got down to the bottom. On her last hand she hits a full house. From there she started growing the meter back again. I was totally amazed. Back up to $150 on the meter and she's dealt 4 to an inside straight flush and pulls the 8 for the $250 hit. This had her up to $400 and I had her quit. We were a bit short on points but I still had my free play to run.

We took a break for and early dinner at the All American Grill. Dee had a chicken quesadilla. She said it was excellent. I had a NY Strip that was ok, but not great. The problem is these places try to keep your food hot by putting it on a really hot plate. The problem is this really hot plate keeps cooking the meat and it gets overdone.

After dinner we hit the slots with my free play. We weren't doing well losing about ½ of each of the $20 reel rewards vouchers. The 4th machine was the best hitting a few bonus rounds. One of those was worth over $40 and got us close to even. Once we were done we were actually up a few bucks. The last machine was a dud but we got out close to even on that and turned the $100 in reel rewards into $100 cash. That was a fun way to wrap up the gaming for the trip.

We came up to the room to start getting ready to go to the airport. I checked our account on the TV and saw I was being charged for internet. This isn't supposed to happen for diamonds. I took a walk to VIP registration and they fixed it. The guy there said I was coded wrong but it would be zeroed out.

Next I went over to the deli to get a sandwich to go so we could eat it on the plane later. Just a ham and cheese but at midnight that's going to be good!

We finished up getting ready and headed to valet to get the car and then it was off to the rental car facility. Returning the car went well even with the extra days added to the rental due to the canceled flight. They charged me just $14.99/a day for the extra days.

A quick ride from the garage to the airport and we were checking in with American Airlines. I booked this flight back in May using miles to fly right into the local airport with a connection in Philly.

Checking in was super smooth. The check in agent set Dee up real good letting the gate know she was coming and even setting up things for us in Philadelphia.

Next up, everyone's favorite part of travel, airport security. This was a cluster fuck. Dee was ignored for a good 10 minutes before she was helped. Then the amount of ass clowns in security that thought the were exempt from the rules. Folks, I will never understand what the hard part of “no liquids” is.

We found our way to the gate and just waited for boarding. Dee was able to board first. We were supposed to be in row 30 but the lady rolling Dee down the jetway called the gate agent and asked if there were any closer seats. We ended up in row 5 at the bulkhead AND had the whole row to ourselves. Sweet! Earlier I looked on the AA site to see how full the plane was and they wanted $89 for each of these seats “upgrade”. Score!

This is flight 403 into Philadelphia. It's scheduled to leave at 11:21pm and arrive at Philly at 6:54am. While boarding was taking place the captain came on and said the flight would take 4:04.

We took off on time. The flight was smooth the whole way home. I ate that sandwich from the Rio and slept a bit on the way back. Dee did the same. We landed in Philly even earlier than they expected.

After Dee's wheelchair came up we were off to the shuttle to terminal F where our connection was. Waiting for us at the top of the jetway was a guy with a cart. We hadn't asked for this but he called Dee by name and said he was there to take us. That lady in Vegas really hooked Dee. Up. Honestly it took longer to load Dee and everything onto the cart than it would have taken to just walk it. He took us as far as he could and then another person pushed Dee to the shuttle.

We took the shuttle to F terminal, found the gate and then I got us something to eat. I got Dee an egg and cheese sandwich at Tony Luke's and I got a cheese steak for work tomorrow. I also got us pastry from Au Bon Pain and ate the other half of the sandwich from Rio.

When it was time to board Dee pre boarded. This flight is non stop from Philly to Stewart – Newburgh. It's scheduled for 1 hour and 21 minutes but the captain said it would only take 45 minutes.

We landed in Newburgh right on time after going through some pretty bad bumps. While the terminal here is small the airport itself is pretty large so we had to taxi for a while before getting back to the gate.

Once inside we waited for the suitcase to arrive. As small as this airport is it always takes a long time for luggage to arrive. Once it finally came out I saw the outer pouch was open and everything that was in it was gone. I then went to the American counter to file a claim. I was not amused.

After this I found Dee a place to sit and I walked down to the plant where I work to fetch the car. It was 12 degrees out. It was 65 in Vegas when we left. Of course I had to dig it out because it snowed. Once that was done I was on my way back up to the terminal and a few minutes later I was picking her up and we were minutes from home.

We made a quick stop at the post office to pick up our mail. From there it was home.

We pulled into the driveway at 11:55am and the Christmas/Birthday trip was officially over (including the bonus days). However we were still registered guests of the Rio in Las Vegas!!
