Trip Report
June 19, 2018 - July 18, 2018

Welcome to the trip report for summer 2018. It's been almost 6 months since the Christmas/Birthday trip and summer is finally here. This trip is one of our longest ever coming in at 30 days. Dee's birthday (I'm not allowed to say which one but it's a big deal) was yesterday and our 8th anniversary is tomorrow. This trip will celebrate those things. Once again the cousins will join us for a portion of the trip and we'll also be seeing some of our friends too. There will be lots of gaming action, food and fun to be had. So sit back and come along for the ride. Next stop, Las Vegas (well Philly is really next), let's go!

Day 1
Tuesday June 19, 2018
I actually had to work today but got an early out. I left the plant at 3pm, came home to pick up Dee and then we headed back over to Stewart Airport. I dropped Dee off with the luggage and drove back down the hill to work, parked the car and walked back up to the terminal.

I originally wanted to fly tomorrow but I couldn't get an early morning flight using my frequent flier miles so opted for this flight a day early instead.

When I got back to the airport we checked in with no issues because we were quite early. This airport is very small so rarely is there a line. I booked this flight back in January on American Airlines using miles. Originally this flight was nearly $600 per person. It's not the greatest flight times but for free I'll take it! Checking in went well and we went over to security (about 50 feet away). Standard issue stuff here and after Dee got her pat down we went up to the terminal and awaited our flight.

Dee was able to pre board and we headed to our seats and waited for the rest of the passengers to board.

This is flight 4796 going from Newburgh to Philly. It's scheduled to leave at 5:46pm and arrive in Philly at 6:59. We were informed that the incoming flight was a little late and we would be leaving at 6:10pm. The captain came on the PA and said it was only going to take 33 minutes to get to Philly.

We left and the flight was smooth most of the way. We landed in Philly and waited for Dee's chair that never showed up. We found out that they gate checked it through to Las Vegas and it wasn't coming. They got an airport chair for her to get to the next gate and had someone take her. We had plenty of time to catch our connection and had to take the shuttle bus from terminal F over to terminal C where we'd be connecting tonight.

While we waited for the flight I got a cheese steak at Chickie's & Pete's. Dee got turkey and cheese sandwich one of the self serve places. This would be good to hold us over until we get to Vegas.

It was finally time to board but the idiots at the gate never announced a pre board. Instead they just started loading people that were just standing in the way. They finally got her on after I made a bit of an argument. This time we were way back in row 30 so she needed the additional time to get there. This is flight 661 scheduled to depart at 9:02pm and arrive in Las Vegas at 11:25pm which is 5 hours and 23 minutes. We were leaving late again now scheduled to depart at 9:20pm. We were told by the captain that it was actually going to take 4:44.

Since I have been up since about 4:30am this flight was going to be spent sleeping as much as possible. Between sleeping I played on my tablet and watched some TV shows that they provide for free. The flight itself was pretty good but had it's moments of bumps.

We landed at 11:33pm and headed to the gate. First our original gate was full because the departing flight had to return and our new gate still had a plane in ti so we sat on the tarmac for 15 minutes. We took our time getting off the plane because we had to wait for Dee's chair anyway. This was another issue as it was the last thing to be brought up. It finally came and we were off.

We took the shuttle to baggage claim, grabbed the suitcase and went out to catch the shuttle to the rental car facility. It was pretty busy considering it was going on 1am.

I had booked a car with Dollar for this trip. The rates were fairly high except for the premium car which was listed at a decent price. I didn't book and hoped the rates would drop but they didn't and instead went up. So back in March I booked a premium which, was still cheaper than everything else for a base rate of $564. A few days later the rate dropped back down to $460 for the month which works out to about $115/week. Not the greatest price but certainly not the worst. No one else could even come close and I checked daily for the last few months at all the companies and the rates never dropped. I was surprised by this because there is usually a short window of opportunity that I get to re-book at least one time.

Luckily I continued to check and just a couple of days ago I saw a rate drop for a mid sized SUV for $76/week base. I got this rate by dropping one night off the rental. This is about as good of a rate as you'll ever see for a weekly rate.

When we got to the Dollar Fast Lane counter they were closed. I had to go back up to the main counter. There was no line and it only took a couple of minutes to get my paperwork. Back down in the lot there were plenty of options to choose from but based on side I ended up with a Nissan Rogue with 40,000 miles on it. I checked the car over and we headed over to security to get the rest of the paperwork done. While there the guard realized the registration was expired so I had to choose another car. I wasn't too happy about this but he pointed out some larger vehicles on the other side of the lot. I opted for a Toyota Highlander with only 10,000 miles on it that was pretty well equipped. This had the bells and whistles like GPS, satellite radio and everything else you could ever need.

I decided to drive down the Strip to Russell Road to I 15 as we made our way to downtown. We booked a room for 2 nights on an offer Dee got for a free rolling travel bag. She's also got $75 in free lay available. Checking in was a snap being that it was near 3am now. We had reserved a handicap room in the Rush tower and were given 5204. It didn't really matter since we'd really only be staying here for one night even though we booked 2.

This is a king room with nightstands, dresser, desk, sectional sofa, flat screen TV and DVD player. The bathroom has barn doors, a dual vanity sink and tub. There are also safety bars throughout. One thing missing since last trip was the sign that coffee pods could be purchased for $15 from the front desk. I guess that was because the coffee maker was also missing!

We pretty much ended the day as soon as we came up here to the room as it had been a really long day at this point and except for about 2 hours on the plane I was up for over 25 hours at this point. We'd get some play on Dee's card tomorrow.

Total Coin In for the day $0
Total win/loss for the day $0
Total Comps for the day $89
