Day 5

I was up early today and relaxed in the room surfing the net, watching TV and having breakfast.

Once I was ready to go I went back over to Harrah's for some more video poker action. Today I started with 9/6 jacks triple play for dollars. The plan today was the same as yesterday. To run 50k through the machines and if I was getting killed I could pull back.

It started out well with a dealt full house and a quad in the first few minutes of play. It was pretty smooth after that but there were pockets where I'd go 10 hands with no pay offs. That's bad enough on single line but triple play it sucks. It was up and down with no major wins or losses along the way. The big hand was getting dealt a flush that contained 4 to a royal. I dumped the odd card and landed absolutely nothing. This was a turning point and things got rough from here. I took a lunch break at 16k down $640.

For lunch I went to the American River Cafe. When I got there the hostess took my name and said there would be a 10 minute wait. I was puzzled by this as a look through the place showed around a dozen empty tables scattered around the restaurant.

I was eventually seated at, you guessed it, one of those empty tables. I ordered the Asian Chicken Salad. It was nothing special and the chicken was quite sparse. It was a huge salad but considering the lack of meat in it was over priced at $13.

I went back to the machines again after lunch. This session was pretty similar to the previous. Some good pockets of nice hits followed by bad ones. This time around the thing that was killing me was getting a pair and not being able to improve it and getting dealt 2 pair and not hitting a full house. There was one point where I started keeping track and went 16 times without a full house. The dealt winners were almost non existent with only one full house and 2 flushes.

I took a break after this down a grand at around 36k. With that being my limit for playing games above my normal level I'll drop back later on to finish the play.

I came back to the room to see housekeeping was in here and the room was made up. Whoo hoo. Housekeeping AND food credit. I also noticed some of the easier fixes in the room were patched up like the peeling wall paper. BUT, someone put my A/C on 60 degrees and it's like a fucking freezer in here.

After the break I went back over to Harrah's to finish up my play for the day. This time I tried the 50 plays again. They weren't nearly as good as they were yesterday. I started out playing jacks and dropped close to a grand in no time. I decided to make the switch from 9/6 jacks to 8/5 bonus hoping to hit some premium quads. This worked out well especially when I got dealt quad threes for $2500! I continued to pound away with no luck. I lost about 5 more bills and between both plays today I was dead even. The problem is I was 1k short in action.

For dinner I went to the diamond lounge. This is probably one of the weakest diamond lounges ever. They had 2 soups, meat balls, salad, chips and snacks and fruit. Even worse is all they use is Styrofoam plates and bowls. I loaded up on soup and snacks and when I got up to get more, I got back to my seat and someone was taking it over and all of my stuff was gone including my beer. WTF? I was only gone for like 2 minutes getting another plate of food and the server must have cleared everything.

I decided to take this easy and found a short pay quarter progressive DDB bank with a royal at $1156, Aces w/ at over $600 and bonus quads w/ at $330. I figured it was long shot but for 1k I'd take a shot. Hit a whole lot of nothing except for one quad. I did get a bunch of full houses and flush four was quite friendly. I got the 1k run through and only dropped $42.

I had my play in for the day so came back over to Harvey's. It was still early so I hit the arcade and played some video games for about an hour before coming up here to wrap up the night.
