Day 19
Wednesday December 30, 2020
I got up today and and got ready for the trip home. Packed up the rest of my things and headed out the door.

My first stop was to head to the bank. No walk of shame here. It was deposit time! Since COVID started Bank of America closed a bunch of branches in town. So of course the first 2 I went to were closed. All of the way to one of the regular branches I use to finally make the deposit. As always when I go to this branch there's some ass clown trying to cash a check that has no ID on him or has no account. Twenty minutes in line (and I was first) to make a 45 second transaction.

The next stop was to fill up the gas tank on the car and then on to make the return. All was good here and I jumped on the shuttle back to the airport.

Because I'm flying first class today I was able to check in at the premier area. Checking in went well and I had my bag checked and my boarding pass in hand in 3 minutes.

Security is bullshit since COVID. I can clear TSA in the first class line but then I have to go to the security line with everyone else. The same holds true for people with pre-check. So much for spending the money the get that when there aren't any special lines for it anymore. I finally got through security. It would have been much faster but there was an idiot that had his phone and his jewelry in his pockets and a belt buckle the size of a hub cap. Seriously dude? How many times did the agent say make sure there is nothing in your pockets?

I finally got to the terminal and found my gate. When boarding started I was able to get right on in the first group and found my seat, 4F. This is flight 2498 with non stop service to Newark. We are scheduled to leave at 12:20pm and arrive in Newark at 8:01pm with a flight time of 4 hours and 41 minutes. The usual announcement was made and we were told it would only take 4:15.

Before we took off people were already misbehaving. We're about to push back and there are still people standing in the aisles and people not wearing their masks. The flight attendants repeatedly had to tell people to sit the fuck down (in nicer terms than that). One flight attendant finally had it with the non mask wearing people and made a stern, yet professional announcement telling them that when they bought their tickets and checked in they agreed to wear a mask. If they weren't going to put it on they could get off the plane now and, if in flight they weren't wearing it we'd divert and they'd be removed. Finally the ass clowns complied and we were able to leave.

The flight was standard with a few pockets of bumps. As usual I passed the time by sleeping, watching TV and playing games on my phone. The other thing COVID has effed up is food service on flights. Today in first class all we were offered was a choice of a snack box. Mine had smoked beef salami, 2 cheese spreads, crackers, almonds, dried apricots and M&Ms.

We landed in Newark at 7:45pm and taxied to the gate. It was nice to be one of the first off the plane being in first class but that just means an even longer wait time at baggage claim. Even with priority luggage handling the wait was still 30+ minutes. This was mostly because the carousel they were going to use for us broke down. They finally decided to use the one next to it.

Once I had my suitcase I got on the monorail to Avis. I booked a compact car for $75 base and $111 all in using a discount code through my job. Picking up here is always hit and miss especially so since COVID. I was shocked but my name and space number were actually up on the board and my car was in space 14.

I was assigned a Nissan Sentra with 40,000 miles on it. I gave the car a quick inspection and I was on my way. This is a lot of miles for a rental car but it's just another thing that COVID has caused.

The ride home was pretty uneventful and I made a quick stop at a McDonald's drive thru to get something to eat.

I pulled into the driveway at 10:15pm as another Las Vegas trip came to an end.
