Delta Male

Description

Silver is an 10 month old timberwolf, with mainly black/brown fur, except for some white fur under his eyes and around his muzzle. He has brown eyes, which reflect his heart, which is what gave him his name. He was born in March 2001 to the Alpha pair of the Song of the Heart Wolfpack, MoonEyes and LightPaw. He has an older brother, NightMyst.

Personality

His birth-pack was friendly, and cared for him, hence his confidence and happiness are still there. His birth-pack was Very stable, comforting, reassuringly supportive, protective, kind, and safe. Others' happiness and social bonds are important to Silver because his parents, MoonEyes and LightPaw, made sure he was safe and happy, and he carries that part of his parents with him everywhere he goes, as a way of remembering them.
Silver doesn't mind taking a backseat when he doesn't feel experienced enough, and covers it with play. He does not shy away when he is confident in himself because he does what he feels comfortable doing, but lets those who have more experience do what he feels he cannot. It comes as no surprise that a pup who was brought up in such a positive environment has so much confidence. This did not come naturally, it was greatly encouraged by his parents through constant positive reassurance when he was still in his birth-pack. It hurts Silver to see those he loves arguing, etc. He is always looking for disputes between friends because Silver was brought up in a pack where there weren't many problems, but the few problems there were were big ones. Even when feeling unsure, he does not hesitate to step in to try and make things better.

Silver constantly feels he has to make any disruptions in the calmness of the pack better, even if he knows it could end up with him being blamed because it didn't work out. Aware of how the hidden tensions suddenly exploded in his birth pack make him uneasy about any hidden tensions in his new pack. Any hidden disputes and bad feelings he feels might disrupt his new pack and put it at risk. This is why he constantly feels he has to make any disruptions in the calmness of the pack better, because he is keenly aware of how what seems a trivial argument today might end up leading to bitter rivalries tomorrow.

Silver values friendships in his new pack so much because his birthpack only consisted of 5 wolves. He likes to see those around him being friends, and always tries to make new friends. Like anywolf, one of Silver's key goals is to be accepted as he is, and wanted. This goes back to the 2 females in his birthpack not wanting to care for him and his brother, NightMyst after their parents were killed. He blames himself for not being whatever was needed to be cared for. One way Silver tries to be liked and accepted is by being silly. He feels if he can make others' days better, that they'll like having him around, and want to protect and care for him, unlike the 2 females in his birthpack. He uses being silly to not appear innocuous, lest these wolves in his new pack perceive him as a threat and he is chased out, and forced to find a new pack all over again. No matter how "at home" he feels in his new pack, he always looks for a sign of his brother. When he leaves the clearing, whatever the reason, his first thought is whether his brother is out there.

How he got to TimberMyst

Silver and his brother NightMyst went hunting with their parents MoonEyes and LightPaw. When their parents catch scent of a moose, they tell Silver to stay back, and his brother Night to go with them. Silver, not knowing what's happening, thinks a moose is no match for the Alpha pair and his brother, and just waits for them to come out of the trees. After a few minutes, Night slowly pads out, ears and muzzle low, and tells Silver to follow him back to the clearing. As they reach the edge of the clearing, Night tells Silver to wait there, and that he'll go tell the pack. A few minutes later, he comes back to Silver, tail low, shouting "RUN!" Silver ran away following Nights trail, thinking he was playing a game. After a while, Night stopped running, and sat down. Silver came over and sat beside him. Night told Silver what had happened in the clearing.. "When I told the others that our parents were killed, they faced up and start vying for the alpha superiority, and when I tried to find comfort, both of them chased me away, because neither of them wanted to care for us. They immediately became totally focused on the struggle to assert their dominance over the other. You wouldn't understand, as a cub.". And Silver didn't, all he knew was that he had been on his first hunt, and now his brother was actually taking him for the very first time, alone out of the clearing. What a privilege, and what a wonderful way for two brothers to have an adventure and fun together!

After a while, Silver told his brother he was hungry, so they started off in search of food. While they were out looking for food, Silver stepped on a small thorn. He took it out, and then looked up to his brother. Night said he was going to go look for some food, and Silver would be OK there. Silver nodded a yes to his brother, who then nuzzled him and padded away. Silver watched Night pad away a little, and then looked down to lick his paw. When he looked back up, his brother was nowhere to be seen.

Silver sat there, knowing that his brother would come back soon. He waited until his paw felt better, and he could stand. He then began to follow his brother's trail, tail wagging, looking around, as if his brother were only hiding. He came to a small river and paused. The trail petered out at the water's edge, and there were no obvious signs of which direction his brother had gone from there. He lapped up some water to relieve his thirst, and then went back to trying to find which way his brother went. He then began to run back and forth along the riverbank, casting for his brother's scent. Not getting it, he stops, and thinks, "Where would I hide?" Silver decides his brother went down the riverbank in search of food, but which way? Silver looks upstream, and downstream, but does not see any clues to tell him his brother went that way. He looks around where he is, and sees a stick on the ground. He smiles, and pads over to pick it up. With a flick of his muzzle, he tosses it into the air, and it comes down pointing to the left. He griggles, and takes it as an indication to go that way in the game. He follows the riverbank closely, continuing to sniff for his brother's scent. Silver pads along, following the river. He suddenly begins to feel cold, and isn't so sure he's going to find his brother. He thinks of going back the other way, but is too tired, so he continues. He notices his shadow keeps getting longer, and he's getting tired. He sees nothing but a river and a lot of trees. He pads along until his paws are sore. He sits alongside a tree, cooling off his paws in the water. It's dark, and it's beginning to sink in that he might not find his brother. He begins pacing around, whining lightly, feeling that the game should be over, and looking behind trees here and there to see if he can see a familiar face...then sits down and tries to be optimistic. His brother is there somewhere, and he will find him - he always does.

After some time he raises his head, feeling like a silly wolf and howls, knowing its cowardly but just wanting the game to be over. The howl dies, and he listens. There is no response. Silver, tired and unsettled, whimpers and whines himself to sleep. But unknown to him, his howl reaches a clearing just out of sight, and a pup who hopes to be sentinel soon hears it. She perks her ears at the howl, and then chuffs to a pack mate, urging him/her to help her investigate the sound. They listen for the direction of the howl, to determine the direction of its origin. They begin padding upstream, following the creek that runs through their territory, towards where the howl came from. Not knowing exactly where the howl came from, they follow alongside the river, stopping occasionally to listen, and test the air for any strange scents. They are downwind of Silver and quickly pick up the scent of a stranger in the air, and follow it to investigate.

Silver is sleeping restlessly, hoping his brother will find him soon. He hears approaching pawfalls and perks his ears. He gets really excited, thinking his brother finally came back for him. He slowly wakes up, and opens his eyes. He sees 2 tan paws in front of his muzzle, and smiles, thinking they are his brother's. He stands, and opens his eyes, expecting to see his brother. He instead sees 3 wolves. His first instinct, being a scared pup, is to back away from the seemingly unsafe situation. He watches the wolves closely. He sees their actions, and notices they seem curious rather than threatening. He slowly pads closer, whimpering from anxiety and hunger. The 3 wolves watch him carefully. When he begins padding closer, they stand their ground, watching curiously. Silver slowly pads towards the 3 wolves, not quite sure of what to do. The wolf, whose name he later learned was HunterPup, looked back to the 2 other wolves, then padded up to greet him and began sniffing. Although still a pup, she seemed to somehow be the one responsible for this search and he treated her with respect because of that. Silver remained still, a little scared, wondering what was going on. Hunter woofed to the adult in the pack, whose name he learned was NevaPaws, who then padded up to him. Her tail was really high, so Silver lowered his quickly. Neva begins sniffing him. As she determined he's no threat, she noses his scruff, then tilts her head back, looking at him closely.

She nudges his side, which is rather thin, and senses he is scared, alone, and hungry. Neva, having a soft spot in her heart for cubs and those in need, decides to take Silver back with her to her clearing. She nipped his scruff, encouraging him to follow her, and HunterPup came alongside. The other wolf, whose name Silver would soon learn was Lukos, followed close behind, so that the 2 pups would be between the 2 adults. Silver soon found himself in a clearing. His rescuers seemed to feel very comfortable and safe here, but Silver didn't. His only thought was that he was in unfamiliar territory with unfamiliar wolves, not knowing where his brother was. He looked around this new clearing, mainly looking for his brother. Not seeing his brother, and not knowing whether to trust these new wolves, he started padding out of the clearing to find his brother. The wolves in the clearing saw this, and padded over to nose and nuzzle him, encouraging him to stay. Silver, not wanting to sleep alone in the cold again, padded back into the clearing with the group. He saw a big rock at the side of the river he had followed from where the 3 wolves rescued him.

He saw a big tree at the opposite end of the clearing, the dirt around seemed to be freshly dug, and the smell of food lingered in the air. This made him even more hungry then he was. Neva lightly growled for Lukos and Hunter to go back where they were, then lead Silver over by the tree. Silver followed her closely, looking at all the other wolves, sniffing the air, remembering scents. He was excited at the thought of finally eating again, but wasn't going to show too much of his emotions in front of this many unknown wolves. When they finally came to the tree, Neva nuzzled him softly, and he sat down. She then began digging dirt out of the hole. As she dug out more dirt, the smell of food got stronger. He controlled his actions and emotions as Neva continued to dig more dirt out of the hole. He watched her intently as she pulled the remains of a caribou out of the hole. He didn't do anything at first. She dropped the caribou in front of him and nuzzled him again. He slowly lowered his muzzle to eat it, but paused right before, and looked up to her to make sure it was OK. She smiled and nodded, so he continued.

After he ate, he lied down, tired from his long day. Neva nosed him to stand and padded towards her den. She stopped and looked back to see if he was following her. When he saw her look back, Silver flashed a quick smile and quickly padded over to catch up. That was the moment Silver first started feeling at home in this clearing. He followed Neva to a rock at the side of the river he had followed to get there, which had turned to a stream. She lied down beside the rock, out of the wind, but Silver didn't. She looked back, and smiled warmly, and told him it was OK for him to sleep there that night. He smiled as she said that, and slowly padded over. Neva lied down by Lukos, and smiled for him to lie between them. He did so, then they curled up around him, trying to keep him warm. Half way through the night he woke up and tried to creep out to watch for his brother, but the movement woke Lukos, who nuzzled him softly to return to sleep. It was a tender gesture, the first time he had felt affection for the big grey male.

Aque and Silver playing

The next morning, Silver woke up to his muzzle being licked. He slowly opened his eyes and saw a black-and-brown-furred pup. When she sees him open his eyes she begins bounding around him in circles, wanting him to get up and play with her. He was still too weak and tired from his long journey, so she soon stopped. She nuzzled him, then lied by him. He would later learn this pup's name was Aquene_Wlf. Throughout that day, most of the members of this pack came by the clearing and saw him. They greeted him with smiles and tailwags, and Neva also allowed him to eat another small piece of caribou when he got hungry. By the end of the day, he could run around, which made Aquene happy. Neva started showing him around the clearing, including the stream, Spirit Rock, where he had slept the night before, and the tree where he got the caribou from last night, which she told him was named myst tree. From the moment he woke up that first day, having his muzzle licked, Silver immediately made many new friends.

During his first 2 weeks there, he got to know all the wolves in the clearing really well, and he gradually became more comfortable. He continued every now and then to watch for his brother, and has never forgotten him, but now he is so settled in his new home that it's more a curiosity, like "I wonder where Night is and what he's doing?". He hopes that some day NightMyst might find the clearing and join the pack as well so they can be back together, but until then he has so many new friends he doesn't have much time to dwell on it, and prefers to play with all his wonderful new pup friends instead.

On November 9th, during a Pack meeting, Silver was named Assessment-in-Waiting, alongside Aquene. (He was also officially given the title of Pack Jokester by his Alpha, NevaPaws, thanks to a really bad joke concerning NACHO CHEESE :) He hopes to be a positive part of the Sweet Mystics, through his always looking to brighten others' spirits and always being there when his friends need him. He also sometimes needs his friends to remember that he needs them just as much, too.
