When world was young,
old Shaman on mountain high
had a vision.
Iktomi, wisdom teacher,
appeared as spider speaking
sacred language.
He spoke, picking up elders
feathered, beaded willow hoop,
spinning a web.
Weaving and speaking,
cycles of life;
Each has many forces; good,
bad, some that interfere with
Nature’s harmony.
Iktomi finished, giving elder
the web, a perfect circle, a
hole in center.
Web of life captures good, hole lets
evil drop through, dream catcher
holds destiny’s future.
