Byzantine Memories

Erte’ women in slinky black `
their mauve scarves across porcelain 
throats as they adorn pinstriped arms of 
Valentino men.  White linen cloths

tabled by jasmine scented water 
bowls, gilded ringed napkins 
pale to hydrangeas mingled with 
ferns.  Ported crystalline goblets

punctuate sumptuous entrees
of quiche lying in attendance
to coral shelled crab legs scattered
on spinach beds held by silver

charger caddies.  Capitan Black clouds 
swirl Chanel scents.  Moonlight Serenade 
whispers to soft lit candles flickering,
flicker, flick, dream’s dance begins.
