TO SHOW OR NOT TO SHOW?
Daytime actresses don't know whether to feel blessed or stressed when their real-life pregnancies get written into the script.

Fans who meet pregnant stars in person sometimes demand to know their sonogram and blood-test results.  "Viewers start to feel very close to your unborn children," Melody Thomas Scott admits.  "They act like your best girlfriend when they meet you.  They want to dish about every detail.  After all, they've lived through this whole pregnancy with you."  .....Last year, Melody was green around the gills while expecting her second child, Elizabeth.  Although her character would soon become pregnant, too   (with son Nicholas), there was a slight time lag.  "Those first few weeks were really awful," she recalls.  "Even my castmates didn't suspect a thing.  You know how it is.  At the beginning, you want to keep it a secret, so you

struggle not to let anyone know you're not feeling well.  I'd be fine until I brushed my teeth in the morning -- then forget it. All I wanted to do was sit in my dressing room all day and feel green."  When Melody was expecting her older daughter, Alexandra, Nikki conceived her first child, Victoria.  But the on-screen conception happened five months later than the real-life event.  "At that time, Nikki hadn't become so upscale yet.  She was still a striptease artist," Melody laughs.  "I remember, I was five months pregnant when Nikki stripped for the last time.  That was a little unusual, I'll admit.  It's hard to really shake it when you're that far gone.  With Alexandra, my character was still pregnant after I had the baby.  So when I came back to work, I had to be padded for a while.  Since I was breastfeeding Alex, I used to bring her to work with me.  Well, one day, I was standing in the CBS commissary, holding Alex, with my padding strapped on.  There I was, looking nine months pregnant and cradling an eight-week-old infant in my arms.  People walked by, and obviously couldn't figure out how I'd accomplished all this!"
