The Original Punk Life

Reviews

Battle Born - Scurvy Bastards (CD - Slovenly Records)

Scurvy Bastards is one of the most talented bands Reno let alone most the world has ever seen. Their music is best described as irish punk with traditional sea chanties with a little someting that cant even be described. They are so muscially diverse that it makes them one of the best bands out there. Their album Battle Born is a great showcase of their range of talents (come on how often do you hear an acordian and a banjo used in rock). This is defentialy one of my favorite albums I have heard. From the haunting vocals of Goblin Town to the get up and dance vibe of Blunderbus / Jar of Porter, this album covers all of the bases. But in order to have gotten the full effect you would have had to see them live. It is truly a good thing to be a pirate. For more info on the band go here. I give this album a 5 out of 5.

Mute Print - a WILHELM scream (CD - Nitro Records)

First of all I should say this cd is a unique work not really punk or melodic rock being more of a fussion of the two. The band has been around for over 4 years originally going under the name Smackin Isaiah up until 2002. The band's sound is one that you do not hear that often, from the melodic guitar to the hard and melodic vocals of Trevor Reilly this cd is one that I could easily listen to all the way through without getting bourd of their sound. The album was produced by Bill Stevenson of Black Flag and The Descendents, at The Descendents owened studio. The albem is one you should really enjoy. I give it a 4out of 5. For more info go here

On the Road With Dropkick Murphys (DVD - Epitaph Records)

First of all I must say that this DVD is great. With over 4 hrs of footage this DVD is a must for any and all Dropkick fans. The band makes you feel like you are one of them, they take you in to the bathroom in Japan to show you the unique toilets they have there. In another scene they take you in to the bar for some hijenks. All in all Punk Life gives it a 5 out of 5 a definate see for any punk rock fans.

Street Dogs - Savin Hill (CD - Crosscheck Records)

The Street Dogs are a band from Boston, Mass.. The Street Dogs are Featuring Mike McColgan (ex-Dropkick Murphys), Jeff Erna (Ex-Dropkick Murphys), Johnny Rioux (ex-Bruisers, Roger Miret and the Disasters) and Rob Guidotti (ex-Vice Lords). A great line up. These guys are one of the most talented bands out there. The album is a throw back to the punk rock of old with great songs and moving anthems. This is real working class music. From the amazing vocals of McColgan to Guidotti guitar to Rioux bass action this band is one of the most unique bands i have heard in years. Punk Life gives "Savin Hill" a 5 out of 5. You really should go out and pick it up for your self.
