Trip Report
August 17, 2024 – August 20, 2024
Welcome to the bonus trip special report. This trip was not planned or scheduled until very recently. My friends that I normally meet in Vegas during the summer had to cancel so we didn't get to hang out and spend time together. Their trip has been rescheduled for the next few weeks. Due to work I can't make this longer trip with them but I sure can surprise them on a weekend when I show up unexpectedly. This trip only comes in at 2.5 days, 1/10th of my normal trips so there won't the the usual action. Most of this trip, if not all will be playing and eating. Here we go!
Day 1
Saturday August 17, 2024
- Worked last night and got an early out at 2am
- Drove my own car to Newark and paid for parking
- Will be about the same price as renting both ways
- Much less hassle
- Arrived in Newark at 3:33am
- No luggage to check on a 2.5 day trip
- Security was a total breeze
- Booked this flight a few weeks ago
- Got a great first class fare of $404
- This was only about $125 more than economy
- Boarded in group 1 and took my usual seat 1A
- This is flight 373 non-stop to LAS
- Scheduled to depart at 6:07am and arrive at 8:30am
- Scheduled flight time of 5 hours 23 minutes
- Got served my pre ordered meal of eggs and sausage
- Went to sleep after this since I've been up since 3pm
- Flight was smooth
- Landed 8:23am (7 minutes early)
- Got right off flight being in seat 1
- Went right to rental car shuttle since I had no luggage
- Booked a car with Hertz with a discount through work
- Got a small SUV for $96 base and $150 all in
- Got to Green Valley Ranch where I will be staying
- Mail offer of 3 nights, $125 free play and $50 food
- Also got a $60 bonus of free play
- Was checked into room 4054 in the West tower.
- Went in search of Jimbo and Katy
- Found them at VP
- Surprised the shit out of them
- Had lunch at Lucky Penny
- Chicken Tenders
- Had dinner at Sportsbook
- Got the chicken wings and a corn dog
- VP was a disaster playing mostly 10 play
- Was down a grand before I checked in
- Ran my $185 free play through Single line dollars
- Turned it into $200 cash
- Played a bit more and clawed back $100
- Hit a few slots for a small win
- Went to bed around 11pm

Day 2
Sunday August 18, 2024
- Slept in way too late (damn room darkening curtains)
- Hit the machines and got slaughtered
- Dropped 1k on 16k in action
- Took a short break and then played more
- Not much better but a few hail Mary plays saved me
- Turned around a bit when I hit a royal
- Was still down $57 after the royal
- Continued pounding away and got dealt quad 8's
- Play continued and I hit my second royal of the session
- Booked a reservation for Pizza Rock at 5pm
- Went there with Anne and Evelyn
- Anne had a $100 comp
- Got ice cream at Baskin-Robbins after that
- Played a bit more after dinner and took a $300 loss on spin poker
- Took another $200 loss on single line dollars
- Hung out with Jimbo & Katy for a bit
- Came to the room at 10pm
Total Win/Loss For The Day = + $367 <---- Not good after 2 royals and a dealt quad

Day 3
Monday August 19, 2024
- Played a morning session of video poker
- Got within a few bucks of being even for the trip
- Failed!
- Had lunch with Jimbo & Katy at Lucky Penny
- I got turkey dinner
- More play in the afternoon
- Identical to morning
- Took a break
- More play and got beat for about 5 bills
- Had to get ready to leave and head to the airport
- Red eye flight home
- Stopped and topped off the gas tank of the car
- Probably could have done without a car
- But I factored uber costs to GVR both ways and convenience and the rental car while more money was worth it even though I never used it
- Shuttled to the airport and went right to security
- Clear and pre-check got me right through
- Went to the AMEX Lounge for a quick meal
- Won a few bucks playing slots at the airport
- Didn't get as good a fare on this flight at $660
- Flying on Monday sucks but coach was just under $400
- First seemed the way to go based on that
- This is flight 1371 non stop to EWR
- Scheduled to depart at 10:05pm and arrive at 6:03am
- Dinner was served
- I pre ordered manicotti
- Went to sleep after the meal
- Flight was smooth
- Landed at 5:25am
- Got right off and headed straight to the monorail
- Jumped in my car and was on my way
- Hit a little morning traffic but nothing major
- Pulled into my driveway at 7:30am after 2 stops
- Went inside and went to bed
- I have to work tonight but it's about the same exact time I usually go to bed when I'm working so it worked out well

Final Thoughts
- This trip was really short
- The flight sucks no matter what
- It was worth it
- Still got to see a few people for some fun
- The weather was hot in the 100's and windy
- I did $80k coin in on video poker
- I hit 2 royals for quarters
- The look on Jimbo & Katy's faces was priceless when I showed up
- Parking rates in Newark are absurd
- This loss brings my Las Vegas record to 50 – 24 – 1
- Next trip is December for the Christmas – Birthday Trip
