The 1984-1985 Honda Accord Main Page!!!
As a previous owner of two 1984 Honda Accords, I have decided to dedicate this page to the
2nd generation of Accords. Honda Accord proven to be a very attractive choice in often boring
sedan market. The second generation (1982-1985) was a great seller in Canada and in early to
mid 1990's the car was a very good and cheap "used car buy". I've owned couple of them and
since I know there is still people out there driving these cars, I wanted to share my own
experiences and knowledge about these cars.
Although now a rarity, these Accords can be still spotted around. Some owners were able to keep
the cars in immaculate shape. Some cars make good "fixer upper" projects, either way this is
designed to be a helpful source for both.
Both of my cars were purchased from people who were "trading up" to a brand new vehicle. My
first 1984 Honda Accord LX, the silver one, was purchased for $400. It has proved a very reliable
vehicle through high school and part of my college life. Due to the structural damage, I was forced
to find a replacement. It was Christmas time back in 1996, when I purchased my charcoal grey Accord.
I've got a great buy for $250.
Both cars required a safety certification. Buying "unfit" car requires a mechanical knowledge, as
well as a good assessment of whether the vehicle is worthwhile repairs. In both cases, the cars
needed slight brake repair and body work. Most pre-1990s Hondas seem to lack sufficient anti-corrosion
protection, so bodywork has to be closely inspected. Problematic areas seem to be the subframes, floorpan,
rocker panels and rear quarter panels. Brake wise, you should expect regular wear items, but brake lines
and power brake booster as well as the master cylinder should be checked.
Check for suspension/steering component wear, worn components maybe dangerous and also require repair
before registration. Last but not least check repair bills for any suspicious engine work, and for corrosion
on the radiator and the fuel lines/fuel filler neck.
A test drive should uncover any malfunctions such as worn drive axles, or any other malfunctioning system.
If you're unable to perform all the checks, the vehicle should be looked over by a trusted mechanic.
Trim Levels for 1984-1985 Honda Accords
