1948 was the year that I was voted into the Knights of Columbus Council 897, Newark, New York.
There were over 400 members in the Council. Our rooms were over the old J.C. Penny store.
From there we purchased the telephone building on Union Street. Because of Urban Renewal, we
were forced to move. Our present building that we bought had been a church. Our members built
a second floor for our meeting room.
At that time to become Grand Knight, a member would have to hold all the lower offices.
I was honored to have been elected Grand Knight several times. The last time was 1996-1998.
The first meeting in our present home was 1976. At that time Grand Knight Bernard Steve appointed
me Chairman of the House Committee, and that is the position that I hold today.
