See the people flood the stores, as Christmas day comes near
The kids that have been bad before are angels once a year.
The pushing, hitting and shoving of people as they shop
They should be happy, caring and loving...
But will it ever stop?
Is the meaning of Christmas lost?
Has it left our hearts and minds?
Does it matter what the presents cost?
The true meaning's not hard to find.
It's another Christmas commercialized, this 25th day of December
Maybe soon all will realize...
It's Christ's birthday we remember!
*I wrote this poem in 1983...when Cabbage Patch dolls & Glow Worms were
the craze & people were literally fighting over these toys!! When my
mother read it, she said the best gift she could receive for Christmas
that year was to see this poem published...and it was! She was quite
surprised when she opened the local newspaper on Christmas eve & saw this
poem with a write up dedicating it to her! *S* Merry Christmas, Mom!
Beautiful packages with colorful bows,
Blinking lights and Christmas white,
It didn't come from a specific address
It means so very much to me,
Written in 1995...as a Christmas gift to my friend, my brother,
my mentor, John *S*
The Signs of The Season
Christmas trees and mistle toe,
The glistening white of new fallen snow.
The carollers are singing,
The bells are ringing...
These are the signs of the season.
Children's faces are all a-glow.
Love and kindness fill the air,
Happiness is everywhere!
These are the signs of the season.
Love and joy and Christmas toys,
"Jingle Bells" and "Deck the Halls"
Let the spirit touch us all!
These are the signs of the season!

A Special Gift
We received a special gift one day...
It didn't come in a box, or on Santa's sleigh.
Never came from a store, or a shopping mall,
Yet it is the greatest gift of all!
Still, it was received nonetheless.
It's kept in our souls and in our heart
When we're near...even more when apart.
It's given unconditionally!
From you to me, and me to you
We carry it with us the whole year through.
It's our gift of friendship, laughter and love
God's Christmas gift...sent from above!
