In April of 2002, Angel, once a popular 70s glam band, came to my local club in upstate NY. The two remaining original members are vocalist Frank DiMino, and drummer Barry Brandt (center and second from right in photo above, respectively). Nope, no Punky Meadows, kiddies! The two new members of Angel are bassist Randy Gregg (formerly of Long Island based band Garlic), and guitarist Steve Blaze (formerly and currently of 80s band Lillian Axe, as well as many other projects).
I came to the show skeptical. The photo in the local paper showed them still wearing the old white outfits, and no one was sure how this would go over with our kind of tough local crowd. Well, although the crowd was kind of small, Angel really surprised me! They actually kick ass! The songs still sound good, the band is tight, and Steve is a major guitar force. And the white outfits aren't really that bad, in fact Renee and I loved Randy's clothes the best, and they were the most flamboyant!
