Ok, here's all the info you really need to know about me (and then some):
My full name is Julie Catherine Turcotte and I was born on June 13, 1980 (for those of you who have trouble remembering birthdays) in Charleston, West Virginia. Stay away if you're superstitious, because I was in fact born on Friday the 13th (wait, where are you going? I promise I'm not bad luck!!)
I graduated from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) in Troy, NY May 2002. I received a dual bachelor's degree in Nuclear Engineering and Engineering Physics.
I am just starting my master's degree at Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) in Nuclear Engineering, with a concentration in medical physics. Last semester, I was a TA for course 22.01 (Introduction to Ionizing Radiation). I have also started research in the area of treatment planning for BNCT (boron neutron capture therapy). I'm currently working on comparing doses received by patients at a few different labs, and working with a software program called RTPE to do this. If you care enough to want to know more, send me an email :P.
This past summer (summer of 2002), I worked with Project SMILE/Gear Up in Trenton, NJ. It is a program for middle school 7th and 8th graders. I taught 8th grade math. It was a good experience, and I have a new respect for teachers.
I have one older sister, Lisa, who is 25 and currently working in northern New Jersey at Q Research as a Project Director. My dad is a chemical engineer and was most recently working at FMC in Princeton, New Jersey, and my mom is a stay-at-home mom and does everything around the house. At home, we had a black lab/german shepherd/probably something else mix named Trudy (she was gigantic!) until February 9th, at which time she was put to sleep because of a brain tumor (miss you fuzzy butt), and Lisa and I got our parents an orange kitten for Christmas a few years ago (his name is now Prancer).
I have lived in five different states: West Virginia (1980-1984), Massachusetts(1984-1989), Maine(1989-1996), New Jersey(1996-present), and New York(school, 1998-2002)...and now back in Massachusetts!
I graduated from Lawrence High School in Lawrenceville, NJ, June 1998 (You know Penn and Teller? Well a long time ago, Teller, the one who doesn't speak, used to teach Latin at that high school!)but I went through my first two years of high school at Rockland District High School in Rockland, ME.
In high school, I was a cheerleader (I even compteted in some competitions! :) ), I was on the math team, I played tennis, I was in National Honor Society, and I played clarinet in the band, orchestra, and pit orchestra for the school musicals.
I like hockey and I played in the pep band for the RPI Engineers Division I hockey team. Yes, I was a band dork, but we had fun!(Plus, I got free tickets to all the games!) Of course, now that I'm in Boston, I'll have to find myself another team to follow...but definitely not Harvard, cause that would be disrespectful to my Engineers!
I'm shy. If you know anyone quieter than me, let me know.
I like ice cream, pickles, sleep, music, smelly candles, sandals, rainy days, canoeing, Old Navy, Maine, Killian's, and chillin' with my homies (well, ok, I don't actually have homies...I really just hang out with my friends, but you know what I mean)
I dislike stress, public speaking, immaturity, having crushes on totally unrealistic people (not like it stops me though), pretentiousness, double standards, asshole drivers....the list goes on, but you don't really care...
The bands I most like to listen to are Linkin Park, Incubus, Fuel, Metallica, Dave Matthews Band, Creed, Nickelback, Our Lady Peace, Ben Folds, and Pearl Jam. Not necessarily in that order.
My current favorite songs are "Candleburn" by Dishwalla and "Save Me" by Remy Zero
My favorite actors/actresses are Tom Cruise, Barry Pepper, Zach Braff, Noah Wyle, Sean Biggerstaff, Alexis Bledel, Reese Witherspoon, Drew Barrymore, and Sandra Bullock
My favorite TV shows are ER, Scrubs, That 70s Show, Whose Line is it Anyways?, and Days of Our Lives
Random Julie Facts: I tried out for the Olympic Junior Luge Team in the summer of 1994...you may think I'm kidding, but oddly enough, I'm not...just ask Abi!
Here's a link to the results of some tests I've taken...I dunno, some of them are cute!
