Wicca is a religion based on the belief in the god and the goddess and in attunement with nature. It was first started in tribal Europe and is believed to be influenced by tribes from other parts of the world.
Wiccans worship nature which is often personified as Mother Earth or Father Sky. Most Wiccans also practice magick meaning the direction and use of psychic energy. Wiccans do not in any way worship the Devil, and it is important not to confuse Wiccanism with Satanism.
Wiccans believe in reincarnation, the belief that after you die your spirit is born again into a new body. They also believe in the Three Fold Law similar to karma. This rule states that whatever you do in this lifetime, good or bad, comes back to you times three some time in this life or the next.
Wiccans follow a creed called the Wiccan Rede.In it lies the core ethical statement of the Wiccan religion; An ye harm none, do as you will. This is similair to the Golden Rule in Christianity and Judaism.
It is important to distinguish between the myths and truths about Wiccanism. Wiccanism is not a cult. Many Wiccans are vegetarians because of the belief that all things in nature are sacred. This belief is also why Wiccans do not sacrifce animals in their spells. Many Wiccans practice witchcraft, but some Wiccans do not, and some witches are not Wiccan.
Many of the Wiccans who practice witchcraft do so in a Coven, or a group of 13 wiches or less who gather together to do spells and celebrate Wiccan Holidays (See Wiccan Holidays). Many Covens are headed by a high priest or priestess, but in some all members are considered equal. Also many witches are solitary practitioners, meaning that they practice by themselves.
