Melina was born in a small village far away where she had a huge family. Her family made up the vast majority of the village and they were all very close. Whenever a child was born into her family they were tattooed on their right shoulder blade with a small Eagle. This way everyone in the family was easily identified.
Ten years ago Melina's village was raided and the whole village was sold into slavery and all the family was seperated and carted around the countryside. Melina was lucky in getting a kind mistress that treated her well and even taught her to fight. She also taught her to use the powers of her mind, so Melina has a few special skills. She is also an excellent horsewoman, a trait that all her family have.
At the time when the story starts her mistress died several months ago and she is trying to find her family again. She has a horse which was left to her by her mistress, a large chesnut mare named Calypso.
She is generally a very quiet character with a heart of gold and a lot of determination.
