B'kowrah (bek-o-RAW)
- "firstling" of man of beast- "birthright", "firstborn".
Ba'al (BAH al)
- "Master"m A Phoenician diety.
Ba'al Shem Tov (BAHL shem tohv)
- "Master of the Good Name", often shorten to BeShT. Rabbi Israel ben Eliezer. The
founder of Chassidism (an Orthadox branch of Judaism). Never formally trained he still
became a powerful rabbi and like Yeshua he used stories and parables to teach and
heal the heart. He died on the second day of the festival
of Shavuot in 1760
Babel (Buh-BEL)
- "Confusion", the nation Babylon and the empire as well as the tower HaShem
destroyed because of man's arrogance.
Bagel (BAY-g'l)
- Common Breakfast food that is Donut-shaped bread that is boiled before
it is baked often eaten with Cream Cheese.
Balaam, Bil am (bil-AWM)
- "Foreigner", a non-Jewish prophet that Balak sought to curse Israel
who was condemned for lack of faith through his ass (Num.22-24). He
also had a prophecy of the Star rising when HaMoshiach came and many
believe he was Persian Wiseman Zoroaster that founded and Persian believe
in one G-d and had followers called Magi.
Balak (Baw LAK)
- "Waster" or the Moabite that asked Baalam to curse Israel thus it
is part of the Parshas for that story found in Num.22.2-25.9
Bamidbar b'midbar (BI-mid-BAWR)
- "In the wilderness" and references the book of Numbers and well as the
first Parshas of Numbers found in Num.1-4.20
Bar Mitzvah (BAHR MITS-vuh)
- "Son of the commandment". A boy who has achieved the age of 13 and is
consequently obligated to observe the commandments. Also, a ceremony marking
the fact that a boy has achieved this age. Jewish Confirmation.
Barakh (Buh RaKH)
- "To bless". Used as in "Barukh ata Ad-nai" which means "blessed are you O L-rd".
Bashert (bah-SHAYRT)
- Yiddish: "fate" or "destiny" 1) A soul mate, an ideal, predestined spouse.
2) Any good or fortuitous match, such as the perfect job or the perfect house.
Bayith (BAH-yith)
- "House", "family", or daughter.
Bat Mitzvah (BAHT MITS-vuh)
- "daughter of the commandment". A girl who has achieved the age of 12 and is
consequently obligated to observe the commandments. Also, a ceremony marking the
fact that a girl has achieved this age.
Bath-Sheba (bath-SHEH-bah)
- "Daughter of an oath". Wife of Dovid.

- "House of assembly". A Hebrew term for a synagogue.
Beit Midrash (BAYT MID-rahsh)
- "House of study". A place set aside for study of sacred texts such as the
Torah and the Talmud, generally a part of the synagogue or attached to it.
Ben (BANE)
- "Child", son" or "young".
Benjamin, Binyamiyn (bin-yuh-MENE)
- "Son of {the} right hand", yougest son of Yaakov.
Bentsch (BENTSCH)
- Yiddish: "bless". To recite a blessing. Usually refers to the recitation
of the birkat ha-mazon (grace after meals).
Berakhah (B'RUHKH-khah; b'ruhkh-KHAH); pl: Berakhot (b'ruhkh-KHOHT)
- A blessing. A prayer beginning with the phrase "barukh atah..."
(blessed art Thou...).
Beresheet B're'shiyth (b'ray-SHEETH)
- "In the beginning of" First book of the Torah (Pentateuch) and also the first
Parsha which covers Gen.1.1 - 6.8.
Beshalach, b'shalaKh
- "When to let go" and is the name of the parshas for Ex.13.17 - 17.16.
Beth-lehem, Beyth Lechem (Bayth LEH Khem)
- "House of Bread" the city Yeshua was vorn in south east of Jerusalem.
Bikkuwr (bik Koor)
- "First fruits" of the crops.
Bimah (BEE-muh)
- The pedestal on which the Torah scrolls are placed when they are being read
in the synagogue; i.e., the pulpit.
Binah (bee-NAH)
- "Intuition, understanding, intelligence". A quality that women theoretically
have in greater degree than men. Also, in kabbalistic thought, one of the Ten
Sefirot.
Benjamin, Binyamiyn (bin-yaw-MENE)
- 1) Son of Yaacov (Jacob). Ancestor of one of the tribes of Israel;
2) The tribe that bears his name.
Berkot Ha-Motzi (BEER-kaht hah mah-tzi)
- "Blessing of the food". Grace after meals.
The recitation of birkat ha-mazon is commonly referred to as bentsching.
Blintz (BLINTS)
- Yiddish: A thin, crepe-like pancake rolled around a filling of potato
and onion, cheese, jelly or fruit. see Recipe section for recipe
B'nai Mitzvah (b'NEHY MITS-vuh)
- "Children of the commandment". Plural of Bar Mitzvah. Children who have achieved

B'nei Noach (b'NEHY NOH-ahkh)
- A movement of non-Jews who have consciously
accepted the responsibility of following the Seven Laws of Noah. Also spelled Noachide.

Bobbe mysa
- a "tall" story, "That story was no bobbe mysa".
Brit Milah (BRIT MEE-lah) also Bris
- "Covenant of circumcision". The ritual circumcision of a male Jewish child
on the 8th day of his life or of a male convert to Judaism.
