Eden (AY-den)
- "Pleasure" or "paradise".
Eikev, eqeb (AY-Kev)
- "at the end", a parsha for Deuteronomy 7.12-11.25.
El (ALE)
- "strength" as in "mighty" used to denote G-d. also Elohei (G-d), Eloheinu
(Our G-d) and Elohim, the plural form of the word G-d (as in the unity)
Elul, Eluwl (el-OOL)
- The sixth month of the Jewish year, a time of repentance in preparation for Rosh
Hashanah and Yom Kippur.
Emor (AY-mor)
- "Speak" or say", and designates the Prasha for Leviticus 21.1-24.23
En (AH-yin) (also see Ayn)
- "not, nothing, not existent, or non-entity". He is called this,
not because He is nothing in the sense of emptiness, but rather because there
is nothing of Him that our finite minds can conceive. This is one word that
describes the Father alone.
En Sof (Ah-yin SAWF)(Also see Ayn Sof)
- "Not limited, not terminated, or not bounded". This term is used
because HaShem is infinte or unlimited; this term can be used to describe both
the Father and the Son.
En Sof Or (Ah-yin SAWF ORE)(Also see Ayn Sof Or)
- "Not limited light". This describes HaShem as the unlimited light
that came forth out of darkness. This term can be used to both describe Father
and Son.
Ephraim, E'phrayim (Ef-RAH-yim
- "Double fruit", 1) Son of Joseph. Ancestor of one of the tribes of Israel; 2) The tribe that bears
his name also another name given to the Northern Tribes after they divided from
Judah (also called Israel).
Esau, Esav (ay-SAWV)
- Son of Isaac and his properity; older twin brother of Jacob (Israel). He sold
his birthright for a bowl of lentil stew.
Essenes
- A movement of Judaism that began approximately 2200 years ago. It died out
shortly after the destruction of the Temple.
Esther (es-TARE)
- One of the heroes of the story of Purim. Also, the book in the Bible that
tells her story.
Etrog (ET-rohg)
- One of the Arbah Minim (Four Species) specifically the citrus fruit which is
native to Israel, used to fulfill the commandment to "rejoice before the L-rd"
during Sukkoth.
