BMX
Gate: a numbered starting position on the starting gate.
There are 8 gates.
Lane: there are 10 lanes on the starting hill. Moto’s
are staged in lanes. Moto 1 stages in lane 1, moto 12 stages in lane 2, moto 34
stages in lane 4, moto 40 stages in lane 0. The last # of the moto determines
the “lane” for staging. Riders need to be in staging 10 moto’s before their
moto is due to start.
The track is approximately 1300 feet long. It takes about
one minute from start to finish. The starting gate is where you begin and the
finish line is the end. Up to six riders will be assigned to each “moto”. A moto
is an age / class group of riders that start together and race to the finish
line. The moto’s are posted on the moto boards. Each rider needs to find what
moto they are assigned and on the posted moto sheet will be gate assignments.
Write down the moto number and the gates assigned. There are 8 gates at the
start, and each of the 3 sets of moto’s the rider has different gates. The
riders are responsible to know their moto # and their gate.
Each rider is assigned a bike number when they got their
license. The last three numbers of the license is used to identify the riders
when they come across the finish line. There are 3 scorers taking note of the
number plates as they come across the finish line. Numbers need to be clear and
readable to be scored. If there are more than six age / class riders then there
will be moto’s added as needed to maintain six riders or less in each age /
class group.
Example: there are 9 riders that are age 10 and rookie
class. There will be two different moto’s for the 10-rookie group. The first
group will have 5 riders and the second group will have 4 riders. There will be
3 sets of races of each of the moto’s. The first round of moto’s will begin
with moto # 1. Then moto # 2 will race,
then # 3 and so on until the last moto. After the last moto, then moto # 1 will
race again for their second set. Then moto 2, then moto 3, then 4, and so on.
Again after the last moto, then moto # 1 will race their third set followed by
moto 2, then moto 3 and so on until the third set is complete.
After the third set of moto’s is completed for all the
groups that have six or less riders, the day is finished. Go collect trophies
for the day.
After the third set of moto’s is completed for all the
groups that have more than six riders, the mains or semis are posted.
Up to 8 riders on the gate for all further qualifiers and
the mains.
The top four riders from each of the two moto’s that have
all of the same age / class will race and there will be up to 8 riders on the
gate for a main event.
If there are more riders
than 12 then the group will be broken into 3 moto’s and at the end of the 3
sets of moto’s are run, then the top 4 riders of each moto will combine into 2
qualifiers to called ¼’s. The top 4
from each of the ¼’s will move on to the semi. Then the top 4 riders from the
semi move on to the main. Those riders that do not make it to the main still
receive a participant ribbon for their efforts. Everyone gets something.
