The BOOK...

"MOTHER GOOSE IN PROSE" published in 1897, an important first
in the careers of Parrish and Baum, was the first of several
books Parrish Illustrated and the first for the "WIZARD OF OZ"
author.
"THERE WAS A LITTLE MAN AND HE HAD A LITTLE GUN" is the title
of the frontispiece illustration and also the story title.

The PRINT...

This edition is the first release as a print.
In 1897 Parrish printed 27 proofs for each of the 14 illustrations
in MOTHER GOOSE, each a beautiful hand-signed signature
This edition was printed directly from one of the original proofs.
The signature was not removed to provide you with an early example.
The reproduction is so good even the light smudge of the penciled
100+ year old signature came out.
Every detail and printing flaw on the original proof was left intact
for this edition. Considerable time was taken to achieve this but the
result was worth the effort.
The inks and paper used conspire to make this a period (1890s) piece.

The FRAMING...

The 1890s frame style will enhance the period look. Keep
the print from direct contact with the glass using a mat.
Use materials of archival standard. A triple overlay
mat of black-cream-black looks incredible.

AFTERWORD...

Parrish's pen & ink works were never released as prints; you
can now compare early pen & ink work hung with his color prints.
You will find a new aspect with Parrish's precision detail work
that has been overshadowed by his extremly good work with color.
You will also notice the depth created, more difficult with pen &
ink, the mark of a craftsman. When hung, look at it form different
angles.

THANK YOU...

Thanks for your time reading this. I have enjoyed the works of Parrish
since the early 70s when I discovered an old framed print in the base-
of a friends apt. bldg. The color and art style caught my eye; but the
only clue to the creator was a mysterious M.P. Of course I had to track
this person down and find more! The print I discovered was Wild Geese.
This is a quality print (even my mother says so!) which I put every effort
into. You will be pleased - you may even find you like the pen & ink work
of Parrish more than the color work!
