Were Ireland as neutral as Peter Gaylick would have us believe why were stray
Germans and Poles
who were washed up on the shores of the
Republic of Ireland held in internment camps at the Curragh in
County Kildare, for the duration of the war? And why were Americans and
British personnel who likewise happened upon Irish soil promptly returned
to their originating base(s)?
Why was rationing in effect in Ireland? Every animal on the land,
every fish in the sea, (dogfish, ray fish, etc) and whatever Ireland
produced was shipped to England. Irish women and men set sail to help
their oppressor neighbor, a neighbor who has been mistreating the Irish
people for hundreds of years. In the words of the "Remember Skibereen"
song on the famine of the mid 1800, they took our food and left my people
starve. They then, rejoiced when some of the survivors set sail for
Amerikay and elsewhere. It's not in the Irish nature to be that inhuman.
Gaylick expressed puzzlement on why Germany did not drop troops into
the Republic but instead embarked on the Russian adventure. Yet, he has
no problem with his characterization of an event that he has reshaped in
presenting a hypothesis of rubbish, to put it mildly.
Thank you for the opportunity to set the record straight.
PS: Just as Mrs Thatcher feigned anger at President Reagan going into
Grenada the same top level expressions of discord is a diplomatic
practice, intended to serve a particular need. The above response
explains a point in time when every possible means had to be
employed to eliminate a scourge on mankind. Again, England and
her Teutonic Saxon brothers locked in world wars (I & II). Wars
that threatened all of us.
Well wha-dya you know!! ...

Attack on the Southie by Big Guns
Irish Echo editorial for Jan 15-21, 1997 describes the following goings on:
South Boston, home of one of the largest and longest-established Irish
communities in the U.S., is caught in a vice that threatens its very
existance. This working-class magnet, which two decades ago resisted
forced busing so strenuously it put its very concept on the run throughout
the U.S., is now being pressed hard by big business, big media and a least
one big politician, Gov. William Weld, to accept a 70,000-seat $200
million football stadium. Not surprisingly, it is resisting.
An article further into the paper describes the barrage of media derision
and insult in recent weeks, ever since its elected officials and community
leaders vowed to fight the plans of New England Patriots owner Robert Kraft.
Those in the community are hearing the same kinds of insults that they
heard when forced busing was being thrust on them, twenty years earlier.
They are said to be ignorant, the hee-haw crowd.
It seems to me that the Irish are an easy mark for everyone.
Nobody pays attention to a people that have no caring for their own.
We need a National Anti-Defamation league to combat this and other forms
of anti-Irish racism.

Few know what its all about or care "Mother's Son Or NO.
It premiere in Britain is prompting controversy. The BBC denied
dropping one of the film's stars, actress Helen Mirren, from a top-rating
TV show because of controversy over its subject matter. Some British
critics applauded the film. Guardian's Derek Malcolm writing that "No more
powerful or contentious piece of cinema has come out of Ireland recently,"
although even he had criticisms of the film's percieved politics. "It is clear
where the film makers' sympathies lie," he wrote.
"The Brits are carictures, particularly the young Thatcherite monster who
recommended no negotiations with the strikers..."
Malcolm's statement regarding the young Thatcherite monster is very
interesting because it seems to suggest that he holds the belief that the
Maggie Thatcher decision of 1981 to let 10 young Irish men die (they wishing
to wear jeans instead of prisoner's garb) to be a monsterous act.
Not a mention about these NI Proddy capers
Why has their not been a word on the American tele about
the now 25 weeks (as of Feb, 17, 1997) of terroristic tactics by NI
Proddys as they attack Catholics on their way to mass on Sundays.
Why nobody puts a focus on this is understandable to me because my
pages speak as to reasons why.
Watched news for December 17, 1997 with Clinton being asked about
his contributing friends with Bruton (Prime Minister of Eire) looking like
a beggar boy on the President's right.
Nary a mention was made of this person as they interrupted this presidential
meeting with questions about Clinton's contributing friends.
A member of Bruton's family is doing very well with the setting up of
an IBM site in the Ould Sod. Some schekels should flow to the family
coffers for their efforts. No wonder Bruton is happy to waltz with
Clinton and Major on the peace waltz that I call a charade.
Annual Gathering at Hilton Head - Jan 97.
HILTON HEAD, S.C. (Reuter) - President Clinton rang in the New Year early
Wednesday by singing songs around the piano at a gala that included
1,600 guests.
Clinton stayed out until 1:45 a.m. EST at the party sponsored by the
annual Renaissance Weekend retreat that he has attended here for years.
Rhode Scholar buddies - strategizing to run the Empire.
So very hush hush.
Some of the ideas that come out of their brainstorming
will be put forth at Clinton's inaugral speech.
A White House spokeswoman, Mary Ellen Glynn, said Clinton was singing songs
around a piano when midnight rang in the New Year after a dinner party at the Hyatt
Regency Hotel with the other 1,600 Renaissance guests.
Earlier in the evening he and Mrs. Clinton had spent two hours answering written
questions submitted by an audience of Renaissance participants. The event was
closed and the audience was under instructions to keep the comments private.
