ADAM born 9 Oct 1498 Lavenham Suffolk England; died 9 Nov 1562; buried in Groton Churchyard at Groton Suffolk England; married (1) about 1527 Alice Henny/Henry; married (2) 20 July 1534 AGNES/ANNE SHARPE born about 1516; died 13 May 1565; daughter of Robert Sharpe. Adam was apprenticed to a clothier in London about 1515. By 1537 he was Steward of the Clothworkers’ Company and later fined and imprisoned for either illegally importing wool or religious reform. He became quite wealthy and became the owner of the Manor of Groton.

Adam practiced law in London but spent most of his time as gentleman farmer at Groton Manor. He left will dated 25 Mar 1623; proved 20 April 1623.

John was the first governor of Massachusetts Bay Colony and was the organizer of the Winthrop Fleet which sailed in 1630 to found this colony.
