Pet Pick for September

Once again, I am in search of the perfect cat litter. It seems that every brand I try has some flaw, and not much of an advantage over others. I recently tried Litter Pearls, yet another new type of litter. As far as odor control goes, they really do have something here! The "pearls" absorb that ammonia smell right away. My cats really seemed to enjoy playing in the box (I'm not sure if that is a good thing or a bad thing). And, having a carpeted bathroom, I liked that the "pearls" did not get ground into the rug like regular clay litter. Although, if you don't have carpets, those little balls roll pretty far...

Now onto the bad news. The bag says "One cat, one bag, one month," and that's fine, but what about multiple-cat households? Unfortunately, the bag-and-a-half it took to fill my litterbox only worked really well for about 2 1/2 to 3 weeks. And, the feces doesn't get covered very well, which makes it easier to scoop, but not very pretty to look at. This litter is on the expensive side as well. All in all, Litter Pearls might make a better litter additive than the sole litter.

Dogs need to chew. If you don't give your dog something safe and satisfying to chew, he will find something, like your favorite shoe or that expensive new jacket, to chew on. But, many of the toys and chews out there are not good for every dog. Some dogs cannot tolerate rawhide, or get pieces of latex lodged in their digestive tracts.

Luckily, one company found a solution to this problem! Nylabones are made from nylon that has been specially formed and molded into a bone that will not break off in large chunks that could get lodged inside a dog. Also, the small pieces that are swallowed won't cause upset stomachs. And, there are sizes and flavors for every dog. Some new flavors, such as watermelon, berry, and banana, have just been added, ensuring that even the most finicky canine will be pleased!

Nylabones are so safe and tasty they have even been endorsed by The ASPCA! Most veterinarians and dog experts agree that Nylabones are an excellent chew toy. They are available in most pet stores.

Need to bond with your rodent? Few things work as well as bribery. And few rodents can resist Vitakraft Yogurt Drops.

These delicios treats come in a variety of flavors, including wild berry, vegetable, and honey. They are very economically priced...but more important, getting that stubborn hamster to take a treat from your hand is priceless! The variety of flavors has something for even the most finicky of gerbils, with an easy-to-grasp size and a nice chewy texture that might even make a hedgehog smile! After all, rodents aren't the only ones who love yogurt drops...most small pets, even dogs love 'em!

Vitakraft Yogurt Drops are widely available in most pet stores. As with all treats, feed in moderation!
