Most people "think" that the ferret is a member of the rodent family..but they are NOT..they in fact are members of the weasel family. For example: polecat, mink, skunk, ermine, otter, etc. The first ferrets came to the United States on ships over 300 years ago and were used for rodent control. They come in a variety of colors and are VERY good pets..loving and fun! They are very playful and keep that playfulness even in their older years. Many places require a ferret licence..but where I'm from, which is New York, you no longer need a licence and they are getting very popular in my area. It is best to get your ferret as a baby..even tho the older ones will make good pets with alot of love and attention. They come in a variety of colors, and once you have one, it is almost impossible NOT to get another. They each have their own separate personalities somewhat like cats, and so it is easy to start to collect them. They love to run and play and IF you decide to let them run around your house, you need to block off any areas that they might get caught in or escape to the outside...as they will starve to death. They have very small stomachs and eat small amounts of food at a time. If they were to get lost they would die of starvation. They are very smart..in fact you can even train them to use a kitty box. I will be having more information and pictures..so please check back.
