The Rescue (Continued)

Deputy Doug had to question Joey on the incidents that had happened. He went into her hospital room, and didn't come out for about five minutes. Dawson was in the waiting area with Pacey, Jen, and Joey's sister Bessie. Dawson was pacing back and forth, watching and waiting for Deputy Doug to reemerge from Joey's room. He had brought her in, and she was on the verge of catching pneumonia if Dawson hadn't gotten her to the hospital in time. Deputy Doug walked out to the waiting area.

"You guys shouldn't have gone after Eric Randall by yourselves...you know that right?" Deputy Doug said to Dawson, Pacey, and Jen.

"Yeah, bro. We know." Pacey said, bowing his head.

"Dawson, you did a good job over Eric." Deputy Doug said smiling. "But from what I have heard from all you guys, he had it coming."

"Yeah," Dawson said, anxious to get to Joey.

"She was asking for you Dawson." he said, moving aside. "But do be too long, ok. From what the doctor's told me she really needs her sleep."

"I know." he said smiling, running over to her room.

Dawson opened her door, and shut it quietly behind him. He stood at the door just looking at her. After all that has happened she still looks beautiful, he thought. Dawson walked over to her, and around to where the chair was. He sat down, and took her hand in his. He didn't say anything, for he didn't really know what to say. He wanted to tell her so much, but right now all he could think about was letting her rest. She rolled her head to where he was, and she smiled.

"Dawson..." she whispered, smiling as she opened her eyes.

"You dozed off pretty quickly." he laughed. "Deputy Doug just left you."

"I know, I didn't sleep while I was in that cabin." she said, her voice sounded harsh. Like she hadn't had anything to drink in a year.

"You sound parched, Jo." he said. "Want a glass of water?" he said standing up.

"Yeah, that would be nice." she said, smiling.

Dawson waked over to the sink, and picked a paper cup off the counter. He filled it with cold water, and turned back to her. She was staring at him. He walked back over to her smiling, and handing her the cup.

"Here." he said.

"Thanks, Dawson." she said, taking a sip of the water. "Dawson, how did you find me?"

"I..." he stopped, looking down. "It's gonna sound silly..."

"No it won't." she said putting the cup down on the table by the bed. "Tell me, how did you find me?"

"I...I followed my heart." he said looking up.

"I felt you near," she said. "I thought about you. I tried to get free, to get back to you...but those stupid handcuffs..." she said as she started to cry.

"Hey, don't do this..."he said wiping away her tears, and his hand traced the side of her face, pushing her hair behind her ear. "I found you, your home now, and I won't leave you alone ever again." he smiled. "I promise. I will die before I let anything happen to you again."

"Dawson," she said in a whisper. "Thank you for always being there for me."

"I love you, Joey." he said leaning over, and kissing her. "I will always be here for you. Always."

"I love you to, Dawson." she said. "And I will always be here for you, too. Like always."

Dawson held her hand until she fell asleep. He got up and turned on the radio in her hospital room on. The song that was starting was "How Do I Live" by LeAnn Rimes. He smiled, and walked back to his chair. He scooted his chair over next to hers, and laid his head down next to hers. He stayed there, and didn't leave once. He fell asleep by her side thinking of how perfectly the song fit his feelings for Joey.

Pacey walked Jen home. They went into see Joey, but saw Dawson and Joey asleep. So, they left without disturbing them.

"Well, Eric Randall won't be coming back to Capeside," Pacey said as he walked up to the porch of Jen's house. "My brother told me they sent him off to a psychic evaluation center up in Providence."

"That's good." Jen said turning to face Pacey. "I had fun catching him. Its fun playing a detective." she laughed.

"Yeah," Pacey laughed. "But I can't wait to get back to normal life." he smiled.

"Same here." she said smiling.

"Jen," Pacey said.

"Yeah, Pacey?" she asked curious.

"Would you want to hang out with me sometime? Sort of like we have been doing, but not as Detectives..." he asked walking in closer to her.

"I think that would be fun, Pacey." she said with a smile. "Well, goodnight." she leaned up and kissed him lightly on the lips. Jen walked into her house, before Pacey had a chance to respond to the kiss.

Pacey walked toward home, thinking of the trouble he is getting himself into. He was gonna be in between girls. Abby and Jen...what was this poor boy to do now, he thought. I am in massive trouble!
