Pacey lay in bed and stared at the ceiling, it was 3 A.M. and he
had school the next day, but he just couldn’t sleep. After his encounter
with Jen he was a little
shaken, she suggested that he confront his father, but would he listen?
He groaned as he rolled over onto his side and made another attempt to
fall asleep.
Jen walked downstairs and into the kitchen to make some tea, she
couldn’t sleep. She couldn’t believe the side of Pacey that she had seen
tonight, he acts like
such a jerk with people around, but tonight he was kind and gentle. She
figured that since he had been branded a loser by the town, he only
acted that was because
he was trained into the behavior. Jen sighed as the water began to boil
and she walked to the kettle.
The next morning, to avoid the inevitable confrontation,
since he wasn’t ready to talk with his father yet, Pacey quickly got out
of the house. After he got to the
High School, he saw Jen walking to her locker. "Hey Jen. Are you
alright?" Pacey asked as he walked up to her. "Oh, hello." She said
while turning to see him.
"Yeah, I feel better, thanks for last night." She said as she hugged
him.
"Hey, what’s going on here?" Jen heard from behind as she turned
to see Dawson and Joey stood there smiling. "Hey guys. How’s soon to be
married life?"
Pacey joked. "Ha, ha, very funny Pacey" Joey laughed sarcastically as
she and Dawson walked off to go to their next class. Jen blushed
realizing that they saw the
two hugging.
"Anyway, Pacey, did you talk to him yet?" Jen asked him after
the other two left, trying to change the subject. "Not yet, I didn’t
want to deal with it just quite
yet.' Pacey replied, then continued "I figure I’ll tell him tonight. I
just have to figure out what exactly I’m telling him." He continued, not
exactly excited at the
prospect of the confrontation.
"Just be honest, he’ll respect you for that, and try to keep the
jokes to a minimum. That should keep him in the right mindset for a
serious conversation." Jen
said to him, but he was looking down to his watch. "Damn, I’m gonna be
late. Jen you’re the best." He finished as he kissed her on the cheek
and ran to class.
Jen stood at her locker, stunned. She didn’t expect a kiss from
Pacey to effect her like that. "Wow!" she said as she grabbed her books
and darted down the
hall.
By the time Jen reached lunch, she wasn’t sure what to think
anymore. She had wanted Dawson back, despite what she said to Pacey, but
now she wasn’t so
sure. Pacey came to her mind as he sat down next to her at the table in
the lunchroom. "So, what gruesome porridge have the three bears left for
us today," Pacey
remarked looking at the lunch on Jen’s tray.
Jen chuckled at his comment, and said "I’m not sure, but I don’t
think science can classify it yet." She laughed as Dawson and Joey
approached the table, who
saw the two laughing together.
"Hey, having fun without me?" Dawson chuckled as he sat down
next to Joey. "Nah, we wouldn’t think of that, would we Jen?" Pacey
remarked with his
typical sarcasm. "Oh, of course not." She said with a grin as she looked
over at Pacey.
"Whoa, am I seeing Pacey getting along with a female in his own
age bracket?" Joey commented with a slick smile on her face. "Yeah,
Joey." Pacey said, but
without the usual witty remark. He stood up quietly and walked over to
the line to get food.
"What’s up with him?" Dawson asked, seeing Pacey leave a little
spooked. "I’m not sure. I’ll go find out what’s up." Joey said, standing
up. "Dawson, what do
you want while I’m up there." She asked him quickly. "Just a water,
thanks hon." He replied as she turned and followed Pacey to the line.
"Jen, do you know what’s going on with him? He’s been acting
strange lately." Dawson asked her as he watched Joey approach Pacey. "I
think it may have
something to do with his family." She said, hoping that was the case
"They blew up on him last night, he seemed a bit weirded out when I saw
him at the docks." She
finished.
Dawson shook his head and replied "He’s going to either kill his
father and Doug, or they’re gonna kick him out of the house at this
rate."
Joey walked up to Pacey and said. "Hey, what’s up, you looked a
bit freaked back there." Pacey turned to her and mumbled "Oh, nothing,
nothing at all."
"Come on Pacey, I’ve known you way too long. Spill" she said,
prying a bit. "I can’t talk to you about this I’m afraid." He replied,
looking back to the table
where Jen and Dawson were sat. Joey picked up on his subtle glance in
Jen’s direction.
"Could it be that someone has a desire under 30?" she pushed,
trying to get details. Joey was intrigued, and didn’t realize how
irritated he was getting.
"Joey, this is personal, can you please..." He replied coldly,
but with a tone she realized wasn’t true anger. He did have a crush on
Jen. She stopped prying
realizing that he hadn’t told Jen. "Yes!" Joey thought, "Maybe Pacey can
get a little happiness in his life." She then picked up her salad and
Dawson’s water and
walked back to the table. She had a plan.
"So, what’s up?" Dawson said as Joey returned to the table. "I’m
not sure, even I couldn’t figure him out this time. Anyway I need to
talk to you after school
Dawson." She replied. Jen looked worried. "Hmmm," Joey thought as she
watched Jen’s expressions.
Pacey sat back down at the table with a blank stare. "You alright
man?" Dawson asked as he sat back down with his lunch. "Yeah, I’m fine."
Dawson knew
otherwise.
Lunch finished uneventfully and they went on to the rest of their
classes. Joey saw Dawson waiting outside her last class as she walked to
the door. "Joey,
what’s up?" He asked sounding concerned from the strange look she had on
her face.
"Let’s get out of here first, this isn’t a great place to talk."
She said spotting Abby down the hall. "Ok," he replied as they began to
walk home.
"So, what’s going on with Pacey?" Dawson asked Joey, knowing she
had figured something out. "Well Dawson, it seems that a certain friend
of ours has a
crush on a blond friend of ours." Joey said without being too
obvious.
"What? Are you telling me Pacey has a thing for Jen?" Dawson
asked surprised. "I could be wrong, but it looked like my comments
really got to him. Then
when I asked him flat out and he just got angry." Joey remarked, "I
figure we could get them together, it’s about time something went right
for him." She finished as
Dawson got a smile on his face that went from ear-to-ear.
