This handsome name is derived from the Celtic word brian,
meaning
strong. King Brian Boru, the first recorded bearer of
the name, was a
valiant figure in early Irish history, for he led his
brave warriors
in 25 battles to repel the Danish invaders in the 10th
century and
became the hero of many legends and ballads.
My husband and I chose this name as a compromise. Since
we didn't
agree on our own individual choices, we agreed to follow
the
Celtic/Irish thing we had going. Brian's middle
name is in honor of his
Great Grandfather, my Mother-in-law's father. "Poppa"
was a
very special man, and although I never had the chance
to meet
him since he had passed on before I became part of the
family,
he continues to touch my life in how he raised his daughter,
and
the loving influence he had on my husband. A Very Special
Man
passing a Very Special Name to a Very Special Little
Boy.
