This handsome name is derived
from Old Norse
Erykr; meaning strong ruler. It dates back to the Gothic chieftain in Spain called Euric and a Norse-man named Eric the Red, who founded a colony in Greenland in 986. The 12th century King Erich IX is Sweden's Patron Saint. |
My husband and I agreed
on this name right from the start.
It may have been because it was so close to the name Erin, our daughter's name. It may have been because my husband has an Erik in his family. It was a great name to pick whatever the case because this Erik was born with a thick pile of RED hair. Works doesn't it? His middle name was chosen partly as a sop to me. I had originally wanted to name our first born son after my husband as my brother was for my father. Mike (my husband) HATED the idea. So Erik got Michael as a middle name instead. That's OK... he'll probably be bigger than his Dad when he's ten anyway. I guess my husband didn't want to be the "Little Mike". |
~ God Bless Erik Michael Marine.
