Henry Doude immigrated in 1639 from Guilford Co., Surrey, England (17 miles sw of London), under the guidance of Reverend Henry Whitfield and settled in Guilford, CT.

While still onboard the ship, the St. John, he signed the covenant of Guilford. Henry was an indentured servant. He married Elizabeth Woolett while still in England. We're pretty sure that several generations before Henry, the Doudes lived in Ireland, but we don't have any solid information.

One researcher found an old map of France where there is a town called Doudville. It is NW of Paris and near the English Channel.

He built a home 1/4 mile from the northeast corner of the "Green" on the road passing on the east side of the "Green". His exact residence at the time of his death and gravesite are unknown. He was probably married before leaving England as there is no record of marriage or of his first born as well as a few other children in Connecticut. He signed his name "Doude" under the heading of PLANTERS on shipboard before landing at Guilford.

There is a chance that this Henry's wife, Elizabeth, mother of Thomas Doud is confused with another Henry Doud's wife. Torrey's Mew England Marriages, says that Elizabeth, wife of Henry, was born in 1639 or 1648. This would make her the age of her children. The original source needs to be rechecked. It would make sense if those were the possible marriage dates instead.
