Student Positions are available with the University of Rochester Cancer Center’s Smoking Research Program (available for Summer, Fall, and Spring).

Research Experience Opportunities are available in:

Dr. Ossip-Klein and her team are internationally known for development of effective telephone "Quit Lines" and other self-help materials to assist smokers quit on their own.

INDEPENDENT STUDY STUDENT TASKS

Based on a person's talent and interest, there are enless possibilities of what this position can teach Independent Study Students and Interns.

Here's a partial list of Tasks: Data entry, data management, and data analysis; Telephone Follow-up Interviews with Research Subjects; Assist with managing a smokers' hotline; Learn and use computerized data management and statistical analysis packages; Create PowerPoint Presentations for conferences and other presentations; Participate in weekly research meetings and learn about all phases of ongoing behavioral research projects; Learn about addiction and behavioral change; Work on your own research project.

REQUIREMENTS:

Course participaton (HLS_396, unless otherwise negotiated) for this project requires a commitment of 12 hours per week for 4 credits per semester (a 2-semester commitment is required, but do not necessarily have to be taken consecutively).

DIRECTIONS:

The Smoking Research Program is located at two sites -- The James P. Wilmot Cancer Center in Strong Memorial Hospital, and across the street in Helen Wood Hall. Most interviews will be in Helen Wood Hall, 4th Floor, Room 4W208 (Dr. McIntosh's office). The entrance to Helen Wood Hall is across the street (Crittenden Blvd.) from Strong Memorial Hospital's South Entrance -- near the "Book Store". When you enter Helen Wood Hall, take the elevator to the 4th Floor, go RIGHT (down the hall) to the first intersection, and turn RIGHT again. Room 4W208 is across from the large Classroom.
