Now it's time to get serious! Let's get to our true first French-related incident. It is one of my most memorable and frightening memories.
PARIS, THE CITY OF FRIGHT
Paris is one of the most romantic cities in the world. To me, it is #1. So I thought I would visit there with my girlfriend at that time, Kathy. We would have a very pleasant and romantic time doing what couples in Paris do. I mean, that was the plan. And for the most part, it turned out that way . . . except for one little incident.
We had just finished exploring the Eiffel Tower and were having a wonderful day. The sun was shining and the air was quite brisk, it being around Thanksgiving time. We had just finished our last gift shop and we went down on the elevator to continue our plan for that day. I don't remember now what the original plan was since it was drastically changed for us!
We decided we would head for the metro to head to this fantastic shop where I had found a very interesting souvenir to take back with me, but which I didn't purchase in case I found something even more interesting.
When we reached the metro, it looked darker and more forbidding than it usually did (we both discussed this later), but we descended the stairs and entered it anyway. Some of the lights were definitely out, but it was still lit and we walked over to the change machine.
There, I was focused on translating the French into English to see how the machine worked. Admittedly, I was paying attention to nothing else. So what happened took me quite by surprise!
I heard Kathy say, "Oh, my God!!!" and when I gave a quick look off in her direction, the expression on her face scared the living shit out of me!
