Gerardo Mejia: A True American

I've devoted this page to a man whose clever combination of Latin grooves and hip-hop stylings were captured in his breathtaking debut record, "Mo' Ritmo."

Gerardo Mejia III was born on April 16, 1965, in Guayaquil, Ecuador. He has based his career in Los Angeles since he moved to Glendale, California, at the age of 12. He's the greatest bilingual rapper in history hands down, I dare you to name someone better.

BUT THAT'S NOT ALL! In 1985 he won two separate televised street-dance competitions, leading to many film roles. He finally got to express his burning artistic vision in April 1990, with 'Rico Suave' reaching number 7 in the US charts. Mo' Ritmo (or More Rhythm) was released the following year.

He is notorious for taking the stage bare-chested (yes, you can see the nipples) and with his barn door undone to tantalise his female followers. And some select males. I'm not gay by the way.

This page will soon have lyrics to every song on the record, and hopefully several pics of the man himself in action. Behind that red bandana and those boyish good looks there is a man who puts his heart and soul into everything he writes, and that man is Gerardo. There's alot more to him than just "Rico Suave," Gerardo Mejia has guided me through my life with his wisdom and humor. This one's for you, Gerry.

"Dos", Gerardo's aptly titled second album, finds our man reinventing himself and casting off his previous image as Rico Suave in the track, "My Name is Not Rico." What a brave thing for our man to do. Just think about it. The world was his oyster, and he rejected it in the name of art. I kind of relate Gerardo to David Bowie, because he's constantly reinventing himself. What a man.

You also MUST check out and worship Gerardo's large testicles. Another thing that deserves godly status is my man's third record, "Asi Es," which was released in 1994. An extremely hard to find treat, this is a Gerardo rarity that only hardcore Mejia-heads can appreciate.

Hey, you've gotten this far. Why not check out the suave man's fourth and latest album, 1995's "Derrumbe".

There is now a GERARDO MOVIE PAGE! Check this shit out!
