Angelogy
Angelogy is the study of angels. There are two sections to this study, the holy angels and the fallen angels.
Angels are created beings: Col. 1:16-17, Neh. 9:6, Ps. 148:2-5
The angels were created by the Lord before the earth was formed. Since they are a creation, they are to bow to the Creator.
Angels have a vast array of characteristics like humans:
Self Awareness Daniel 10:11
Self Expression Acts 12:7-8 and Rev. 22:8-9
Moral Awareness Mt. 13:41 and Luke 15:10
Intelligence 2 Samuel 14:20 and Rev. 22:16
Desire 1 Peter 1:12
Emotion Job 38:7 and Rev.12:12
Accountability 1 Cor. 6:3
Some other characteristics include:
There are many Dan. 7:10, Mt. 26:53, Heb. 12:22, Rev. 5:11
They are powerful Psalms 103;20, 2 peter 2:11
They can do things that humans cannot 2 Kings 19:35, Acts 5:19-23
Capable of learning Eph. 3;10, 2:7, 1 peter 1:12
Indestructible Heb 12:22-23
Types of Angels
The word angel means messenger. The angels that we hear about all the time are responsible for many things:
Giving worship Rev. 5:11-12
Delivering messages Luke 1:11, 26:27
Conveying divine revelation Acts 7:53, Rev.1:1
Care for God's people Gen. 19:1-22
Observing believers 1 Corinthians 4:9
Warring against evil Rev 12:7-9
The cherubim angels are closely associated with the throne of God Ez. 28:14, 2 Kings 19:15
The seraphim are above the throne giving constant praise Isaiah 6:2-6
Of course, Michael and Gabriel are in a league of their own and therefore have different responsibilities.
