Inner Dam was formed on October 30, 1995. Myself and our then drummer Ernie talked about doing a band for quite awhile, so he said he knew a bassist (Shannon) and a guitarist (Kevin). So we got together and started playing as a four piece. Together we wrote five songs- four of which were put on our demo "Through the Eyes of Suffering". The lineup has changed quite a bit since it's original formation, with myself being the only original member. In January if 1996 Shannon left the band for personal reasons and shortly after her departure, we added a second guitarist, Mike. Soon after Mike joined the band, we got our bassist Jay to join up with us. We played out first show on April 27th 1996 with our friends: Hatebreed, Drowning Room, Atlas Shrugged, and End of One. The show was at a VFW in New Windsor, NY. We played consistently throughout the summer of 1996, in and out of state. Things were going good. We were writing new songs and playing a lot of shows. At this time we were playing as a five piece band- but- again- things were changing. The songs- musically were taking a different direction. Simply, the music was getting faster, less chugging and better structured. We felt out guitarist Kevin wasn't digging this direction we were taking, so we parted ways with him in Aug., of 1996. The most bizarre thing was, people didn't even notice he was gone. Again we played as a four piece and things were good- no- things were great. At this time we felt nothing was out of reach. We felt liberated from our past members, we had a new place to practice- but once again, things weren't able to be held together. In Sept. of 1996, our original drummer decided to quit the band, and go his own way. For whatever reason that was- to this day, I still don't know why. Feeling pretty shitty because it's almost an impossible task to find musicians in this area- we felt dead in the water so to speak. We asked our friend Chris, who was at the time playing in a progressive rock (shitty) band to at least record one song (structure) with us for the "Strength Through Diversity" compilation, and play one show with us to at least see if he liked playing this style of music and being involved with this type of scene. That show was Jan. 10, 1997 at the Avalon sk8park in front of 500 people with Earth Crisis, Vision of Disorder, and a bunch of other bands so it was a great show and Chris liked it I guess because he's still with us and as for his Progressive "Cock" "Rock" band- well lets just say they got kicked to the curb Rikki Lake style. Chris's style of drumming along side with the music style Mike opened up a whole new dimension for us. Between Jan till May 1997, we wrote so many new songs. We were asked by Rhythm Den Productions to sign up with them and we felt the deal was great because the label is in our hometown and they're honest people who look out for you, you know what I'm saying? We liked the idea of doing business with people from our own area- doing it correct. In June of 1997 we decided to not record in our area, due to the simple fact that the studio we used in the past was not to our liking at all. We decided to travel to Mass. and record up at Salad Days with Brian Mcteran doing the boards. We liked a lot of other bands recordings that came out of that studio like: Entropy, 108, and Tenfold- so we figured we'd give it a shot. We recorded in two, eight hour sessions, and were very happy with the way it turned out and we can't wait for people to hear it. This long assed story tells you where we stand as of June 1997
