2001 EAST AURORA INVITATIONAL CHAMPS

2001 DIV IV CHAMPS

B2 CHAMPS

the 2001 blue devils captured thier 20th divisional crown with a 9-1 league record, and a 18-4-0 overall record that earned the number 1 ranking in the small school soccer poll at seasons end. with a 3-0 win over previous undefeated fredonia, east aurora succesfully defended their B-2 sectional title. this marked the schools 12th sectional title. leading the way for the blue devils were 1st team divisional all stars, senior cam wald, jeff cluckey, ben pergament, and kevin clauss. Pergament and clauss anchored the defense along with second team defender junior nick gagliardo helping 1st year goalie seth kelley with 11 shutouts. Cluckey provided control through the midfield along with the crafty senior, tim butler who earned second team honors. wald, who lead the division with 22 goals was assisted by second team forward, junior seth calleri on the forward ranks. the team also set a school record for consecutive wins with 12.

EAST AURORA MENS SOCCER 2000

The 2000 team finished the season with a 20-1-2 record, in one of the greatest seasons enjoyed by a Blue Devil squad. They won another Division IV League Championship, also reclaimed the B-2 Championship, beating Fredonia 1-0 on a goal by Matt Smyczynski. This was the 6th B-2 title for the Blue Devils since the B's were split into B-1 and B-2 in 1991, and the 11th overall Sectional Tiltle. They then met B-1 winner Williamsvile East in the overall B final game. A goal by Jesse Hamms gave the Blue Devils a 1-0 victory and their first overall B championship in 5 tries. This earned a spot in the Far West Regional game for the fisrt time since 1979 against Rochester Aquinas. Jeremy Frost headed home a cross from Hamms to tie the game at 1-1, and after 30 minutes of scoreless overtime the game would be decided on penalty kicks. Aquinas advanced on the PK's to the State Final 4. The Blue Devils set a team record with 20 vitories, breaking the old mark of 17, and Goalie Steve Pitt set a new Section VI mark for career shutouts with 35, breaking the old standard of 33 held by Mike Matz of Allegany-Limestone. 2 MARYVALE 0
