Full Name: Rutger Oelsen Hauer

Rutger has three sisters. One younger and two older. He may have a brother as well.
He says he is color blind. This limited his work at sea. He says he inherited this from his great-grandfather.
At the age of 15, Rutger ran away and went to sea as had his grandfather and great-grandfather, who was a captain.
He stayed a sea for one year.
Rutger was married briefly, at the approximate age of 22. He had his daughter, Aysha, born in 1966, by this wife.
Rutger has one grandchild, Leandro, born in 1988.
Rutger had a sixteen year relationship with Ineke Sientje Ten Cate (Rutger calls her "Sien"), before their marriage in 1985. Instead of a wedding ring, Rutger has a
tattoo bearing Sien's name on his arm.
Rutger has taught himself to speak several languages. He can speak French, Friesian, German, Dutch and English.
He has a ranch in Los Angeles and a 250 year old farmhouse in Friesland which he commutes between.
Rutger looks up to Marlon Brando.
It is said that Rutger has a great sense of humor, although he is quiet.
