Chapter 5

As it turned out, I didn't fly with my family to Tulsa that Wednesday and I found myself sitting in the uncomfortable airport longe five weeks later waiting with my friends for my flight to be called. "Laura-- we'll call you, e-mail, everything." They all had my e-mail addy: MMMTaylorH@aol.com. But I knew it wouldn't be the same. Matt and I had had an emotional good-bye the night before and we agreed that we still should see each other, despite the fact we were each living in different cities. "Now boarding First Class Only for American Airlines flight 3362, nonstop to Tulsa, Oklamhoma." I started to cry-- I couldn't leave. I felt nauseaus and started shaking. I couldn't leave the city. I think I started to have a nervous breakdown until my friends gathered around me. "We Love you", they said crying. And then I was on the enterance onto the plane. That was it, my whole life as I know it now was gone in a matter of minutes. I picked the window-seat and glanced out of LaGuardia AIrport-- My HOME. My eyes started to water and I felt my mother's soft hand on my face. I cried in her lap and barely noticed the take-off.

By the time the stewardess had started serving drinks, I was already on "Werid", track five, of Middle Of Nowhere. This was my favorite CD of all time probably because I am totally in love with Hanson. I think they're so hot and really talented. SO does Ali, but my brother Ian thinks they suck (he's 16, no wonder). I love Hanson so much that on my canopy bed back home, sigh, I had taped posters to the top and I had even gone to the Arthur Ashe Kids Day-- That was the best experience of my life! All of a sudden I became extremely sad again because I realized I wouldn't be able to see Hanson at Jingleball--but I am moving to the city (or is it a town) or as them. I think Ian pumped up the Aerosmith when I heard "Crazy" from my seat. I started obliviously cursing at him and my mother yelled at me.

Soon we were starting out decent and I buckled my seatbelt. I made sure Ian's Discman was off and nestled back into my seat. I looked behind me and saw Ali staring out the window. I was sure the move was probably going to be just as hard on her because she had a successful ballet career in New York. She had been in the Nutcraker among other ballets and was pretty good. I suddenlt caught sight of tall buildings-- maybe seven or eight in the distance. Maybe this wasn't going to be too bad. It's an "adventure" I think trying to be positive and feeling a bit excited suddenly. I close my eyes and soon feel the soft touch of the wheels on the ground and the taxi to the gate. I stand up and stretch in my seat, gathering my backpack and tie my sweater around my waist and walk off the plane with my family. I'm home
